SOURCE: Alpine sat nav would not load...
This is not uncommon, before resorting to Alpine, try a DVD cleaning disk. It may be necessary to try it up to 6 or 7 times, but it's a lot cheaper than dealer service!!

it sounds like a defective unit, but it may just be a corrupted SD card.

When you finish the downloads, you need to unzip all the files, then copy the map files into the maps folder. Once this is done, copy the entire thig to the SD card and enjoy! Joe
