This is an issue I had with my laptop. The problem was that the battery had gone dead after a year which was covered under warranty. The solution I found was to remove the battery and reinsert. leaving it unplugged for a ten count or so to let the power discharge from the circuits. If that doesn' t work you might have to buy a power supply(power cord) because it's dead. Windows will probably have to be installed because it lost the image on the drive. One more thing is to take the memory out and then put it back in a few times to make the metal contacts on the cards get a clean metal to metal contact. Other wise if installing Windows isn' t for you, have a tech look at it, it might just cost you $75 - 90.00 to fix.

Try and go into safe mode and select system restore. To get into safe mode press F8 before as the computer begins to boot. When you get to safe mode press start and then select program files and select accerioes, under that heading select system tools and click on system restore. Follow instructions and select 2 days or the lastest restore point in order to restore system back to it's original state.

If you cannot reboot at all to safe mode, you will require to restore the system or reinstall windows using you xp, vista or recovery disks for laptop. Good Luck!

How do I reboot my Toshiba laptop?

to reboot you just shut it off and turn it back on. If you are looking to reformat then that takes additional steps. You either need a windows boot disk, or if there is a recovery partition on the laptop use that to recover to factory settings. NOTE: you will LOSE ALL data.
Thanks,

Hi,
If the computer keeps rebooting when you first start it up it is quite possible that the hard drive is broken. It keeps looking for the start up boot sector, but it's broken so it keeps trying again..and again...and well you know.

Hi, If Battery Light is blinking orange, then it could be that your battery is toast and that you need a new battery. That'll cost you about $50.00 for a new one.

- do a bios update (or downgrade if needed) to see if it fixes the issue

- but probably the BIOS battery is not keeping the proper voltage anymore, and it automatically resets the BIOS (do the bios setting that u change, remain changed after unpluging/pluging the comp ?!). Try keeping the computer pluged in for a day and see if the battery charged properrly (if the set date remains )... if not ..change the battery.

- as for the self starting, there is a setting in the BIOS, that activates/dissables that ! - see u;re user manual ...

Hi,

If you are referring to the files inside the hard drive, then as long as it is not defective, it will last a very long time. Most hard disks can retain data indefinitely .

As to your concern with the laptop's charger/power supply jack, it is very possible that the connector simply lost its connection inside the motherboard. This could be easily remedied by re-soldering the two (2) pins of the said jack. What might be a challenge is the opening of the laptop to expose the underbelly of the motherboard.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
