Question about Canon Rebel XT / EOS 350D Digital Camera

1 Answer

My Canon Rebel EOS autofocus is not working. It will not move at all nor will it take a picture. If I place it on manual the flash will pop up and take a picture but it is not in focus. The AF is not working at all. I see a flashing green dot inside the viewfinder with a 9 to the left of the dot. Help!

It could well be the lens, take it off and clean the contacts on the lens and body. Other suggest about this problem... first in manual or auto focus mode does the green in focus confirmation light come on in the lower right corner of the viewfinder? Are you shooting in One Shot-AF, have you selected an Auto Focus Point are your pictures in focus?

If that green confirmation light comes on then the picture will be in focus. a few things that will mess up focus are little or no contrast. No contrast like huge expanses of water, sky, glass or infinity will render a auto focus system near useless. Something that is good is that you haven't said anything about error codes which is good. These questions my sound lame but ask yourself this when was the last time I cleaned the lens (Front Element) use a lens cloth for this and huff on it if a little moisture is needed. Do you change lenses often and when was the last time you checked your sensor for dirt?

If you have had the lens off you should check the rear lens element for finger prints or oil. A dirty rear lens element will cause everything to look as if it's shot in a dream world. Check your camera sensor buy taking a (manual) focus shot of a piece of clear blue sky download it to the computer increase the size to 100% and check out the blue for dirt. A camera that's two years old and used "normally" may need the sensor cleaned. But go back to this infocus light if it's coming on and the pictures are out of focus then you have another problem as in dirt.

If it is a dark scene and the camera cannot detected edges well the autofocus will either move around a lot or simply will not focus and thus wont expose. You will just have to manually focus or use the flash

To autofocus the sensor needs a fair amount of contrast (light and dark eges) to operate. If you're trying to take a photo in a dim room of a dark colored subject for instance the focus won't lock and the camera won't take the picture. Try switching your lens to manual focus and shoot that way.

In addition to resetting all the camera settings you should also choose the "clear all custom functions" option that is also available from the same menu. Once that's done. Put the camera in Full Auto mode and see if the issue is resolved.

I can help you fix the BUSY Error or Error 99 of your Canon EOS Rebel XS.

Installation of this Canon EOS Rebel XS firmware version 1.06 update will solve these problems:
  1. Some cameras may exhibit a phenomenon in which the LCD monitor does not display, the shutter does not release, and the BUSY indication remains lit in the viewfinder.
  2. The message, "Err 99 Shooting is not possible. Turn the power switch to<OFF> and <ON> again or re-install the battery", appears on the camera's LCD monitor, and after the above operation is carried out,the LCD monitor displays in a language that is different from the actual language setting.
See the firmware instructions and download the firmware upgrade by following these Fixya Tips :

  1. Follow this link to download a pdf version of the firmware installation instruction guide.
  2. Follow this link to download the Windows Version of the Canon EOS Rebel XS / Canon EOS 1000D firmware version 1.06 update.
  3. Follow this link to download the MAC version of the Canon EOS Rebel XS / Canon EOS 1000D firmware version 1.06 update.
  4. Follow this link to download the Canon EOS Rebel XS / Canon EOS 1000D Instruction Manual.

I hope that helps.

Be aware that the built in flash does not pop up automatically in all picture modes. Try it when in the different modes (on the mode dial) and see what I mean. Does it popo up when manually opened ?, (small button on front left hand side of the viewing pentaprism/flash housing.)

EOS Rebel XTi 400D flash not popping up

Flash will automatically pop out only in AUTO mode, if the camera needs some additional lightning. In manual modes, you should use the flash button located at the left down side of the flash compartment, to manually force the flash to pop up

Will a quantaray 28-105 1:3.8-5.4 Zoom lens Autofocus from a 35mm rebel ti fit on Canon EOS Digital Rebel 6.3 MP 300D?

The 35mm Rebel Ti and the Rebel 300D use the same lens mounting protocol. All Canon cameras designated 'EOS' use the autofocus EF lenses. If your Quantaray lens worked on the Rebel Ti, it will fit and should work on the Rebel 300D.

In my case, I borrowed a camera and when I got it back, err 05 appears. I've located a bit of old orange juice which sticked one of the sensors - you can see the sensors when flash is popped out.
