Question about Kenmore Dryers

1 Answer

Kenmore dryer is not drying clothes completely; ignitor will light and burner goes on for a few minutes and then shuts off. The ignitor goes on again and the burner will again light for a few minutes. Then the ignitor goes on for few minuites but the burner does not go on. The ignitor will light again but the burner does not go on. We have checked the lint filter & cleaned the vent hose for lint. When the dryer is shut off for a while, this same action repeats.

Does this mean that the thermostat is open or is it closed when it gets to that 3rd cycle?

  • btrflyem186 May 26, 2011

Should I try to jumper out the thermostat to see if it works?

  • btrflyem186 May 27, 2011

We did jumper out the Thermostats but this did not correct the problem Our parts break-down shows a picture of only one coil with it's parts #. The assembly itself actually shows 2 coils; one with blue & black wires on top of it and a black & white wires on the bottom portion of the coil. The other coil which is not called out on the parts list has a white & blue wire on it. Which one of these could be giving me the problem?

Hi

I believe that everything else is fine rather it is the thermostat that is located inside the rear panel to the exhaust duct that is bad and should be replaced. If you want you can test this thermostat for continuity and if bad replace it as it cannot be reset. If it is fine then check the coils as the igniter and burner seem to be working fine...Hope this helps...please post back for further assistance.

Yes you can try to remove the thermostat and then connect its two wires together to see if thats the issue if not then it can be the coils

Use a multimeter and check for the continuity in both the coils.

Isn't heating up. takes forever to dry,

Disconnect the complete exhaust vent tubing and clean it out thorourghly. Then it will dry. There is a moister sensor in your dryer and when the lint builds up inside the vent tubing the sensor shuts off the burner to prevent fires from starting

Partial drying

if it's a gas dryer you have bad gas coils, also you might need a clean out,if the air isn't blowing out of the dryer the clothes will not dry,you need to go outside and make sure the flapper is blowing fully open, if it's a long vent line that goes through the wall to reach the outside take the vent line off the back of dryer and blow it out with a leaf blower, then you need to clean out the duct that your lint filter slides into and then vac out the inside of dryer, you should clean it out or have someone come in to clean your dryer out at least once a year so you don't have a fire more so with gas cause you have an open flame in there,if it's gas,run the dryer and see if the ignitor is glowing and lighting the burner, check it again in like a half hour and if the ignitor is lighting the burner you have bad gas coils,if you need more help send the model number located around the opening where you put the clothes in the dryer and let me know if you need anything else

Dryer not drying

First thing to check is the vent. Make sure you have sufficient air flow to the outside. If you are not sure if you have the proper rate of flow, disconnect the vent from the dryer, turn dryer on and see if burner stays on longer. Do this with a couple of damp, spun-dry towels inside the drum. If the burner short cycles again, you need to replace the coils on top of the burner assembly. These are the two black round coils.

sounds like your motor is overheating or going bad. sometimes lint built up around the motor can cause it to overheat. or the motor is dying.

Sears kenmore gas dryer 417.92052101does not stay lit.

Watch the burner assembly, shortly after starting the dryer the ignitor should begin to glow. If it glows for several seconds (up to 15 seconds) and then goes out, then the problem is probably the solenoids (coils). If the ignitor glows and stays on, then the problem is usually the flame sensor.
