Question about Black & Decker Grasshog 12 Inch 18 Volt Cordless String Trimmer/Edger NST2018

2 Answers

Line fails to cut off on your cordless 18 volt trimmer/edger (NST2018) According to the instruction book I need a new blade. According to this website there is "no estimated release date" for the blade which would cost 81 cents if I could get it. We once had a service center here which informed me they no longer service these. (Just these or all Black & Decker? I don't know) ??????????

Having the same problem. The blade isn't sharp enough to trim the line. Isn't this a problem for everybody who owns one of these?

The service centers have stated in unison that it is no longer "cost effective " for them to repair these. They claim they are a "disposable" item and should be replaced once worn out. This may surprise you, but I suggest that you remove (if you have to drill it out then fine) the blade and attempt to sharpen it some. Or leave it off and replace it with a large cutting razor type blade used for shears etc. They do make sharp blades large enough to do the job. You just have to find them.

A very small triangular shaped file can be used to "touch up" the edge on the cutting blade.

If you look closely inside the shield, at what would be the leading edge as the string approaches, you should find a little cutter that trims the line if it is too long. This can get dull. I have had to sharpen the one on my B&D with a file before.

Line doesn,t feed automaticly

Hi there,

The line may be on backwards or has developed a knot. Debris may have worked its way inside the bump head preventing it from functioning.

Check out these items.

Best regards

My line on my grasshop keeps getting longer and doesn't cut as used. How come?

There should be a metal knife attached to the inside of the guard housing. This knife will keep the string at a length that keeps it within the housing. It is either screwed or snapped in place. If present, clean the debri away from it so it can cut the line as it should.

Line will not advance line is not crossed in spool

Rewind the line and make sure you wind in the direction of the arrow on the spool. Not an unusual situation.
