SOURCE: change blade miter saw

Un-plug the saw. Remove the screws holding the side saw guard in place. Look at the center of the saw blade for the nut holding it in place. Take a socket wrench that fits the nut and loosen it. You'll need to take a scrap piece of wood 2x4, and jamb the teeth of the blade into it while loosening the nut. The nut will come off first and then a washer/spacer.

Reverse the order for installing the new blade. Make sure you use the proper size diameter blade (10 inch) and mounting hole in the replacement blade. Also, use the provided washer/spacers that were on the original blade and secure the nut. Spin by hand to see if everything clears. Mount the protective guard back on. Plug in the saw and test cut .

Good luck. If you are still unsure - ask a handy neighbor to help. It takes about 5 minutes to complete this task.

Ride on mower manuals

Pull the cutting deck off the mower, lean it against a wall so you can see the bottom of the deck. I usually use a small section of 2x4 to stop the blades from turning when trying to loosen the blade bolt. A breaker bar comes in handy as those bolts/nuts are usually put on rather tight. Be sure to pay attention to how it goes back together, take pictures if need be. Also, be sure you put the blades on right, or the grass won't cut right.

How do you change the blade on a craftsman lawn tractor model 917.28726? I have the tractor on ramps, but can't seem to get the bolt off!

Disconnect the spark plug wire from the engine to prevent accidental starting. Use a wrench or socket to remove the bolt, turn in a counter clock wise rotation for removal. You'll need to hold the blade still while attempting to remove the bolt. Use a breaker bar for more leverage if needed, sometimes these bolts are difficult.

I think either the bolt holding the left blade onto the spindle is loose, or the cup washers under that bolt are flattened or missing. As a result, the blade is slipping on the shaft and probably making a squeal or squawk. Take off the deck, flip it over, and remove the blades. Note if the bolts seem tight. And look at the washers stacked under the bolts. Replace any missing washers, or flattened cup washer. Make sure the cup washer faces the right way (hollow side toward the blade). Tighten things back up securely - it takes a hefty pull on the end of a 2 foot long wrench to get enough torque.

Have deck off and new blades on my MTD Yard machine 42 in . Is there a easier way than removing all the bolts in the pulleys and on the gurads... just wondering ! Thanks, Bob

If replacing just the blades, it's easier to turn the mower up, lock the blade down with a piece of wood or ?? to prevent moving while taking bolt off. It takes about 3min to change them this way.

42 deck craftsman riding mower. how do you get blades off? md 91721880.

On most riding lawnmowers, you can remove the blades reaching underneath the deck while the deck is set to its highest position. This may not be possible on lawnmowers with three blades; however, most 42 inch mowers have two blades.

The blades are usually held on with either one or two bolts (on each blade). Oftentimes, too, there is a lock washer underneath the bolt.

If you have auto ramps, it might help to push the front end of the mower up on the ramps. This can give you more room to access the blade bolts.

If the blades have not been removed before, those bolts can be on really tight. You might need to use some kind of breaker bar on your wrench to give you more leverage.

Blowing fuses

try unplugging the pto, starting the mower and then engaging the blades. If it still blows a fuse the problem lies in the mowers wiring. If not the problem is the pto. Hope this helps

Cutting unevenly

Set the mower on a known flat piece of concrete. Now look at the deck and the support connections where the deck hangs from from the mower. Should be adjustments such as pins with clips or threaded bolt hangers which will allow you to raise or lower the corner of the deck which is low or high. Conversely you could have put a blade in upside down or left out a washer making one blade higher than the other. Usually an owner's manual will detail this process. As you just changed your blades, as opposed to wear and tear, likely you did not put it back together exactly as you took it apart.
