Question about KitchenAid KAWS700L Top Load Washer

1 Answer

Hello, I have a Kitchenaid Dryer, Model no. KEYE670BWH2. It will not turn on when the on button is pushed. It is plugged in, the fuse is not blown, and I have tried pushing the door in all the way. The dryer is getting power. The timer works and the dryer heats up (when knob is turned to 30 min, for example), but the drum won't spin. My husband has tried the timer in different time/heat settings, but still won't work. Any ideas?

If it heats fine and the timer is fine then check the door switch assembly, if the door switch is bad it won't start, also if the door switch tests fine then the issue is with the motor that is bad and should be replaced. Hope this helps...please post back for further assistance.

Will not start

Hello Bernie;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service appliance technician.

You did not provide a model number, so I can not give you the correct part numbers and cost.

I am going to show you through pictures where the 3 primary components that will prevent your dryer from starting.

1.) Door Start Contact Switch.

Open the dryer door. There is a small round plastic component. Push in - did you hear a click? If not you may have a bad switch.
Open the top of the dryer. There are to spring clips, one on each side that you need to push in on and lift. You can use something like a small spatula.
There are two wires on the switch. Remove the wires. If you have a multi-meter, set the meter on the lowest Ohms. Put one meter lead on one switch contact and the other lead on the other switch contact while pushing in on the switch button. You should get a reading of '0' Ohms. If not the switch is bad. If you do not have a multi-meter, Carefully, with power on turn on the dryer and momentarily touch the two wire leads together to see if the drum turns.

2.) Thermal Fuse.
The thermal fuse may be blown. In the back of your dryer is the thermal fuse.
Use your multi-meter as described above to check the thermal fuse. If you do not have a multi-meter, with the unit unplugged use 12 gage wire to jump the connectors. Plug the dryer in and start the dryer momentarily.

3.) Thermostat.
The only way to check this is with a multi-meter.

4.) If all three of the above components check out ok, then you need to check the motor drive pulley contact switch. After you have accessed this arm switch, press up and down on it. If you do not hear a click then it is bad and needs to be replaced.

Kitchenaid dryer keye670bwh2 turns on heats up for couple of minutes and then turn itself off

how do you mean it turns off?does the timer move to off or is it the motor is bad, overheating and shutting down?if it's the timer try it on auto or more or less and timed dry and see what it does, but if it just dies and then after a while you can start it again it sounds like you have a bad motor but this is just a guess without being there, this is an older dryer and not to expensive,i wouldn't put to much into this wil cost you around 120 dollars for a new motor and blower wheel but if the blower wheel comes off the motor shaft you won't need it,if you're handy it's not a hard job but for another couple of hundred dollars you can get a new dryer, your call let me know what you find and what it's doing, also when you go to start it does it make a noise like a loud ahhh sound>if so it will be the motor.

Unplug dryer and try bypassing the thermal fuse by taping the two wires together and plug back in and try to start. If starts replace thermal fuse.

Amana dryer model YNED7200TW will not start. there is power, but start button does nothing. Resetting breaker did not work. Any ideas?

Thermal Fuse

Item #2986 (OEM Part)

Thermal fuse. If the dryer overheats, this device stops the flow of electricity to the heat source and/or the entire dryer. It is located on the blower housing and cannot be reset. The most common cause for overheating is a vent tube clogged with lint, a birds nest or other debris.

Kitchenaide dryer won't turn on. . .

HI, check the following to address this issue.

1. No power to the dryer
Make sure there's power getting to the dryer. Check for a tripped circuit breaker or a blown fuse. Check the wall socket for power with a voltmeter or by plugging something else in.

2. Door switch / Door switch actuator lever
The dryer will not start with a broken door switch. Replace the door switch if found defective.

Most dryers have a door switch actuator lever - when you close a dryer door, it presses against the lever, which actuates the door switch. If the lever is broken, the switch would not activate and the dryer would not start. Replace the lever, if broken.

Note: Door switch actuator lever usually comes with the door switch assembly and it is recommended to get the whole assembly since there is almost no price difference between the door switch assembly and just the lever. Check your model for more details.

3. Thermal fuse
Most dryers have a thermal fuse, which burns out when the dryer overheats, in which case the dryer will either not run at all or stop heating. The fuse is usually located on the vent duct, inside the dryer. A blown fuse will show no continuity when measured with a meter. Before replacing the fuse, make sure the blower wheel is not broken or clogged, and there is nothing blocking the venting.

Note: It is recommended by most dryer manufacturers to replace a hi-limit thermostat when replacing a thermal fuse.

4. Timer
Replace if defective (note: uncommon problem).

**The most common issue here will be a defective Thermal fuse

Dry trips breaker

breaker is tripping from faulty insulation allowing current to ground
breakers work on milliamp current so it requires a mega meter to check the insulation
call a qualified electrician to check the unit
