Question about Briggs & Stratton Garden

1 Answer

Will start in choke mode only. Then quickly dies. Replaced vacuum fuel pump, but this did not correct the problem. Replaced fuel filter, but this did not correct the problem. Replaced spark plug, but this did not correct the problem. Am about to pull off the carburator and clean it, but thought I would ask your advice first.

Some had an adjustable main jet. try turning it in and back out again. If it is a fixed jet, your rebuild is on the right track. Replace the crankcase breather to air filter hose while you are at it as these rot pretty fast.

Have husqvarna 1542. When pushing in the choke it dies. Have replaced battery, solenoid, fuel filter, cleaned carburator. Will not run when pushing in choke. Need assistance

this 15 hp Kawasaki engine needs lots of gas to run , and taking the choke off and engine speed falters is a sure sign that you have a fuel delivery problem (choke richens fuel mix)

id start with the simple things and move to the more difficult ones
(1) fuel tank - valve on , fuel in tank, hose not broke or crimped
(2) fuel filter replace or clean out fuel filter look for cracks in fuel lines as well
(3) fuel pump - if im not wrong these engines use a vaccume operated fuel pump , these are critical to have good hose for vac supply on (correct type as well)

(4) good working carb - this should have a factory minuki carb , these work very well and don't require a lot of maintence as others might , but they do get stopped up with fouled gas and they do eventually wear out as well requiring rebuilding or replacement , also lots of folks forget that the other part of a working carb is the air , air filters need to be clean enough for sunlite to penetrate thru them ,if you cant see lite thru then air cant get thru either

Husqvarna 141 starts with choke and then cuts out

If the chainsaw has been used recently i would say It sounds like the screen filter inside the carburetor is dirty item # 507432582 or the metering diaphragm is dried out item # 530035165. Also check that the fuel lines are in good shape. If that doesn't solve your problem you should do a pressure and vacuum test to check the seals and gaskets.

New fuel pump and fuel lines.. Ran like a champ for day... BUT

Are you saying you think it is getting too much fuel, or not enough ?
Could be the choke or something inside the carb.

My truck wont start, changed the starter and battery?

Check the fuel filter. A completely plugged fuel filter will stop your engine cold by choking off the flow of fuel to the carburetor or injectors. The engine may not start, or it may start, then stall and die. Next most common problem is the fuel pump failing. Most modern electric fuel pumps can be heard when you turn the key on. If you don't hear the pump running and your car will not start, it could be your fuel pump. The first thing a mechanic will check is the relay which sends power to the pump. If this is operating correctly then the pump will have to be replaced.

Hello, After my 1987 F-250, 7.5 L V-8, 4BBL sits for more than 12 hours I have to pump the accelerator anywhere from 20 to 50 times to get it to start. Once it starts it runs fine. I have replaced every...

That would be a Holley, probably model 4160 carb on it. You need to do a little detective work on this. You either need to adjust the choke or find out where the fuel is going after 12 hours.

First, when the engine is running check the Intake and Carburetor gaskets for vacuum leaks. Also spray by the Vacuum reserve canister (Like a coffee can) with either Choke cleaner or a water mist. Either way the RPM will change if you have a Vacuum leak. Fix the vacuum leak if you find one. The engine needs Vacuum to draw in the fuel for a cold start. There are vacuum ports with gaskets (Hidden until disassembled) where the Choke housing attaches to the main block of the Carburetor. A leak here will mess up the tiny piston inside the Choke. (Its under the Black cover and operates the stepup for cold starts).

The black choke dial should be set for 2 marks rich. You should not need excess force on the choke flap to unload it. The choke flap should maintain an opening about 2 credit cards thick measured between flap and carb housing. To get this space you bend the rod pushing the choke flap. This should help the choke work better.

If this does not help, on the next 12 hour interval check for fuel by taking off the strainer on the Carb inlet and remove the line from the carb to the pump. If the fuel line is dry you are losing the Prime to the pump. You must have either a bad pump or a hole in the fuel line from the tank.

Would like to know what you found. The Power pump inside the front bowl of your Holley has a number and you can go to a Holley website to see if it is correct for your truck. The fuel inside the front bowl of your Holley should be enough start the truck. Even if the bowl went dry overnight, the fuel pump would replenish the supply well before 20 to 50 pumps.

2002 Honda VT 1100 C2 Shadow Sabre will not idle without the choke being on

Hi, Esw2035 and the usual suspects are:
1. Fuel cap or fuel tank is not venting properly.
2. Fuel filter clogged.
3. Fuel line pinched or kinked.
4. Vacuum line from the petcock to intake manifold cracked.
5. Float needle and seat sticking.
6. Float level too low.
7. Carburetor bowl vent line clogged/blocked/pinched.
8. Idle adjusting screw set too low.
9. Air/fuel mixture screw set too lean.
10. Idle port, transfer ports, slow air jet clogged.
11. Slow fuel jet clogged.
12. Faulty fuel pump.

If the choke has an adjustment point, then adjust the choke to a good overall working powerband. If it still doesn't act correctly, look for vacuum leaks. If it is an option, you may want to install a manually operated choke lever.
