Question about Maytag Neptune FAV6800AW Top Load Washer

2 Answers

I'm looking at buying a used stackable maytag washer dryer that i know has issues. The washer when it gets to the spin cycle it's start making a sound like it's off balance or off tract. Yet still works perfectly just very noisy... Curious if you can give me a idea what's wrong with it about how much it could cost to fit.

Hello, welcome to FixYa.

I will start by saying your post indicates it is a stacker Kenmore washer & dryer , however narrowing down why it's noisey in spin could be tricky. It could literally be a dozen components with these units built by Frigidaire.
I'll follow that by saying with these Frigidaire stacker machines "buyer beware". The most critical component that can and does fail is the main tub support brackets which are spot welded together and when they seperate you might as well discard the entire unit...unless nothing else is wrong and you are a good welder. You need to remove the front panel for a visual inspection before purchasing this unit. Pay attention to the main tub support which look like this (below) and look for cracks or seperated welds especially where I've pointed to with the arrows.. i'm looking at buying a used stackable maytag - macmarkus_647.jpg I've also listed several possible components aside from this which can contribute to noise and unbalanced spin cycles, from least to most expensive and difficult.
Idelr pulley #131862900
Drive Belt #134511600
Pump #137108100
Snubber #5308002385
Spin bearing #3204405
Transmission #134735700

Those are just a few possibilities, of course the main tub support being the most serious followed by the transmission and spin bearing. Any of the other things are less than $100USD, but still are a bit involved for do-it-yourselfers in my opinion.

I would suggest you have a really good look at this before buying it that's the best advice I could give you. Let me know if I can assist you in any way going forward and good luck.

Thank you for choosing FixYa.

Regards,

Macmarkus :)

Your model has two struts which one is likely the problem. They are 74 dollars each on this parts list and DIAGRAM. Take the front off the cabinet and observe the cycle in operation to determine if that or something else is the problem.

My daughter has a maytag model LSE 1000 stackable washer and dryer yesterday when she was using the washer the buzzer when off to let her know that the washing was done when she open the lid it was still...

The problem could be an issue with the lid switch or also a broken belt. Check to see if the unit will agitate. This washer and a 2 speed motor which spins one way to agitate and the opposite to drain and spin. If the unit sounds like its running then its probably a belt and idler pulley issue. IF the unit is completely dead it could be a bad lid switch, timer, or motor.

I had this issue when I first purchased my stackable washer.. Because it was still under warranty, I had someone check it out. Apparently when it was installed they forgot to take out the security clamp that secures the unit during delivery.. duh!!

Very loud spin cycle

It sounds like the bearings have gone out in the tub. The major cause of this is using powder soap. There is nothing you can do but replace the rear outer tub. This is a costly fix but maybe worth it for a stack unit.

Mle2000ayw Stackable washer/dryer not washing, spinning

If the door lock light is on then is might be the "door lock enable spin switch" the plunger at the opposite end from the wax motor is not fully depressing the switch. In the stackable it is just behing the door lock. Remove the two middle covers (2 white phillips screws and one hex head screw on the middle of lower cover by the wires)to test place a few layers of masking tape on the end of the plunger and cycle the machine. Might also be a weak Wax motor (dark brown in color) to be safe replace both for about $12 each. Fix in 10 - 15 min.

Washer will not drain on spin cycle, water stays in machine

you might have a broken pump belt go to www.repairclinic.com enter model number and scroll down to the red 100 click it and start looking for the pump part number 1480330. You'll have to lean this thing back far enough to see if it is your belt or maybe even go through the back of it.
