I would love to pretend I am an expert on this subject, but I'd rather be honest. :)

Practically speaking, I would ask the retailer where I plan to buy the fans.
Preferably, and to make sure, I'd get two or even three opinions or estimates from different retailers, and see how they compare.
You may even prefer the fans installed professionally.

If I was really lazy, I'd email these people and ask for the fans' specifications and some educated opinions and advice which they are always more than happy to give.
They are in the racket, so they must know all there is to know about air displacement and such.

Happy hunting.

How many 2x3s are needed for ceiling 10'x11'

First of all we need to know is the two by threes inches or feet on your ceiling 10 x 11 ft you need to square it 10 times 11 divide whatever your two by threes are into the feet if their feet goes into feet you're okay if not you'll have to take change the two by threes two feet or the 10 x 11 to inches in that's reasonably simple if you know your math

Newly installed Minka aire concept II ceiling fan is poorly lit. Installed in my son's bedroom and it's useless, dim.

probably not the reason for the dim light. It probably has more to do with the installation where you have wired the light before or after the fan so that power so the bulb is reduced by the resistance in the fan.
lights and fans are wired in parallel so that one doesn't affect the other
Might pay to talk with an electrician on the issue
There is a limit on the size of the bulb that can be used and a 100 watt halogen bulb will probably melt the surrounds and set fire to the fitting

How do I calculate the amount of paint needed for walls in a 12 foot by 16 foot room with 8 foot ceilings?

Ceiling paint estimator

Use the following formula to estimate the amount of ceiling paint you need. Double the result if the ceiling requires two coats.
1. Multiply the length of the ceiling times its width to find its area.
14 × 20 = 280 square feet
2. Divide that number by 350 (the estimated square feet covered per gallon) to figure out how many gallons of paint you need.
280 ÷ 350 = .8
For this example, you want to buy 1 gallon of ceiling paint for a single coat.

Wall paint estimator

Use the following formula to estimate the amount of wall paint you need. Double the result if the walls require two coats.

I want to replace a ceiling light fixture with a ceiling fan/light combo. the existing fixture is about 32 inches from a wall. what size fan can I put there?

I have replaced a couple ceiling light fixtures with ceiling fan/light combos in bedrooms where the light was basically in the center of the room. This was fairly straight forward and for me required replacing the electrical box that the light fixture was using with a heavier duty fan mounting box which you should make sure you use (that way the fan/light combo won't fall on your head later on -- literally). As far as the size of fan you can put there depends on whether the fan mounting electrical box can be mounted in the "exact" position of your original ceiling light fixture. I say this because the new box MUST be anchored to the ceiling joist structure in some way as a ceiling fan (usually) weighs more than a light fixture and tends to vibrate lending to more stress on the electrical box it's mounted to. Have someone who is an electrician or at the very least has a clear understanding of the importance of proper electrical work do the work or at least clearly explain what you need in your specific situation.

It is generally accepted that you should have at least 18" of space between a wall and the tip of your fan blade. In order to do this with the 32" figure you gave, ideally you should have a (32" - 18") x 2 = 28" fan. A fan in the 28" to 30" range is probably about as big as you should go in this area. You could technically place a 60" fan in that location and leave only about 2" of space between the fan blade and the wall, but that's asking for trouble and should NOT be done in my opinion. The smaller the fan, the less air you will be able to move, therefore you need to balance size, air flow requirements, and the restrictions of your particular location with what you can put there.

Do a quick internet search on "what size ceiling fan do I need" for more information on this topic.

What size is this airhandler?

I live in a part of the world where it is summer 10 months out of the year. A basic rule of thumb of mine based on how houses are built here is you need 1 ton of ac for each bedroom. SO..... if you have 3 bedrooms then most likely that is a 3 ton air handler. This based on 8 foot ceilings and standard plain Jane housing not a mansion or anything like that.

We have 2 Hunter ceiling fans with remotes. We can get the one in the bedroom to work great but the one in the living room now will not turn on the fan or light. Also when we are trying to get the living...

The remote might have wrong orders. Get the battery out and insert it back and see if the problem solved.
Do you set the dip switchs correctly on the fan and on the remote? Numbers set must be matched. Otherwise, the fan won't work either.
