My pc desktop is showing a white screen when its on what should i do?

Is it an LCD monitor ?

When an LCD screen has turned completely white, there are three normal causes: the screen is defective, the video cable is not connected correctly, or the graphics card on the motherboard of the computer is faulty. You will need to troubleshoot these possibilities to determine which problem you have. If you are not experienced in working on computer equipment, you should not attempt to disassemble your LCD screen because you could easily damage it. Seek professional assistance unless you have experience working on computer hardware.

Disconnect the white LCD screen from the computer by unscrewing the blue monitor cable. Connect the working LCD screen to your computer by attaching its blue monitor cable to the same slot. If your computer display does not show on the functioning LCD screen, try rebooting your computer. If it still does not display, the problem is with your computer's graphic card on the motherboard. Seek professional repair assistance. If your computer display shows normally on the working LCD screen, proceed to Step 2. Unplug the LCD monitor with the white screen. Disassemble the rear panel of the monitor with the small screwdriver. Carefully separate the screws into piles so that you can keep track of how to reassemble the monitor. Locate the internal video cable, a gray cable with a plug on the end that connects to the main components of the screen. See Below for the References section for photos of the video cable for assistance. http://www.laptoprepair101.com/laptop/2008/04/13/laptop-lcd-screen-turned-white/ Unplug the cable, checking for any debris or blockage. Reconnect the cable firmly. Reassemble the LCD screen. Plug it in and connect it to your computer. If the screen is still white, you have a defective LCD screen. You will need to replace it or take it to a professional repair service for assistance. Hope this helps.

isolate your monitor or lcd. try using other monitor or lcd. if it works, then your old monitor or lcd is defective.

CRT works but LCD doesnt

You may need a driver for your PC as lcd differs from crt. They have a different signal input so update the video card drivers and you should be good to go.

Gateway flat LCD dead

I'm not sure if your referring to the lcd monitor (gateway brand) or a laptop's lcd screen not working anymore.

1. if it's an lcd monitor...
a. test monitor in a different pc before assuming the problem is the lcd screen
b. replace the monitor if after testing monitor is in deed the item failing.

2. if it's the lcd screen from your gateway laptop.
a. you may be able to attach a regular analog monitor to the paralel port on your gateway.. test and see if the monitor that you attach will give you a picture (you may have to toggle with some some keys on your laptop keyboard to make have the signal going to the "externa" or attached monitor.
if the other monitor does not work either.. you video controller on your motherboard on your laptop may be failing and you may not have other options that to replace your laptop.
b. if the external/attached monitor works.. very likely the problem is the lcd screen for that you need to get a replacement and you may have to contact gateway to find out about pricing (or places to send your laptop for service if you're still within warranty). if you have an old laptop you may have to considere simply replacing the unit as buying a new lcd screen may very likely be more expensive than the same working laptop.

I currently operate an HP nc8430 Laptop with a docking station. Attached is a Phillips a 24" Widescreen LCD monitor. The problem is as follows: • At startup, the Laptop and LCD work fine up until...

1) Change the power settings to not do anything when you close the lid under AC power. The LCD isn't entering sleep mode, the laptop is.

2) Change the monitor setup so that monitor 2 (the LCD) is the main monitor.

3) Change the resolution for the LCD to the way you want it. (You may also have to use the monitor's adjustments - on the monitor - to make the display a little smaller, so you can see everything. Different monitors are masked differently.)

When I turn on the Toshiba Satellite A215-S7447 laptop, the monitor part of it doesn't turn on with the rest of the system.

Plug in an external monitor. use the <FN><F5> keys to toggle between the internal lcd and the external monitor. If the display external works and the lcd doesn't, most likely a bad inverter board.

My toshiba m105 it wasn't the inverter, it was the lcd itself, the TAB welds were no good but the lcd still worked it just had a 3" vertical blacked out area on the lcd.

LCD Monitors

Absolutely, pretty much any lcd monitor will work...just make sure you get an LCD that has VGA output, not DVI (most LCDs today have both)
