Question about Dryers

1 Answer

I have a Kenmore front-loading H4 dryer that is making a terrible sound the entire time it dries. Sounds like maybe coming from the left side of the drum. Any ideas?

Thanks for the help Daniel. Will it damage the dryer if I go ahead and use it even though there might be a problem with the drum until I can get someone here to repair it? I have some damp clothes that need drying, but I don't want to hurt it further.

    Thanks,

    Charla Seeliger

Hi

Please check that the dryer drum is not cracked or loose from where it is welded. If it is the welding then you would need to get the drum replaced. Usually dryer's drum carry lifetime warranty and you can get it repaired/replaced without any major charges. You would need warranty card and/or the receipt, contact the dealer or the manufacturer to get drum replaced/repaired. If the drum is not cracked then you would need to check the dryer's belt if it is loose, replace the belt if worn out. Hope this helps... Please post back if you need more information.

Clothes not drying in one cycle. I have to run the cycle 2 - 3 times to dry one load. We checked the lint exhaust pipe and cleaned it out. We can feel hot air when we turn the dryer on.

You might try to locate the thermostat(s) on the dryer, it sounds like they are weak. Usually they are located down my the lint screen in the front of the unit or by the blower. Also make sure you don't have a lot of turns or kinks in the vent

We have a Kenmore Elite electric dryer H4. For the last week it has been vibrating and making a loud noise, but still drying the clothes. Now the noise is unbearable. We can't use it. Any idea? Is it...

I believe it is your drum rollers in need of lubrication or replacement...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR DRYER BEFORE STARTING ANY REPAIRS
Your problem sounds like drum rollers have flat spots on them or in need of lubrication, or maybe your drum belt has slipped off of the idler arm pulley.
If you have a front loading machine,

Remove the electrical console that holds the timer switch, start switch, etc. from the top of the dryer.
Be REAL CAREFUL not to knock any of the wires off of the timer switch.
Then remove the top of the dryer.
Remove the front of the dryer. This will expose the drum and belt.
Remove the drum and belt and this will expose the drum rollers, idler arm
pulley and motor.
Now is a good time to check the belt to see if it has slipped off of the
idler arm pulley and also to check the belt condition for wear.
Be sure to note the route of the belt, this will come in handy when you go
to reinstall the belt.
Check your drum rollers for flat spots or wear, if they have flat spots
or wear on them replace them.
If the drum rollers don't have flat spots or wear on them then they probably
only need lubrication. Lubricate the shaft of the rollers with a good grade
of machine oil such as 3 in One oil.
Reassemble the dryer, plug back in. This should solve your noise problem.

My dryer Kenmore elite quiet pak is vibrating TERRIBLY. It still dries the clothes, but sounds like it is going to shake the house apart. Have checked lint door and exhaust tube, all clear. What next?

Check your leveling screws in front of the machine at the floor level, make sure they are touching the floor and not allowing the machine to rock back and forth.
Also it could be flat spots on your drum rollers that is causing your noise, if it is then follow these directions to solve that problem:

Drum or blower will freeze up while tumbling

If it is an old dryer, or maybe you put a lot of clothes in it at a time, sounds like the friction pads are maybe worn. The drum is open on the front side and just has some teflon or plastic pads that the drum rides on. Maybe you are dealing with metal to metal, which doesn't slide too well. You can order those pads and replace them. Don't ignore this, check it out, because if it is metal to metal, that creates hot, glowing sparks, not good to have in your home.......

Kenmore dryer help?

Sounds like motor is stalled. Remove the lint filter, look inside down toward the bottom left corner at the blower wheel. Something may be jammed in the blower wheel. If difficult to see, TURN OFF POWER TO MACHINE, remove bottom access panel. 2 to 3 screws on bottom of panel. Remove lint housing (3 to 4 screws) and inspect blower wheel for debris.

Dryer making very loud noise.

We had the exact same noise all of a sudden start coming from our 2 year old dryer. We checked everything, rollers, pulleys, motors, etc. I was certain it was coming from the upper left. Finally we found a loose screw had fallen into the front felt ring. Problem solved!
Good luck.
