Question about Olympus Camedia D-395 Digital Camera

1 Answer

I use an Olympus d-395. I downloaded some pictures, but left the usb cable attached to the computer overnight. on return I removed the usb cable and saw a message saying: removal error asking me to go to the Finder and follow the icon. Teh camera does nothing now except show 2 lights and engages no function: taking pics, or quick view.

Try to take off battery for soft reset. When disconnected the usb camerafrom pc, follow the procedure like a external device, turn off the device and take off the connection.

When you put in an USB cable, the camera starts charging the battery, or when some signals come from the computer it knows it needs to send pictures you the computer and wait till it gets the order to do so.
Only for the more professional camera's there are programs so you also can use the camera in combination with a computer. Professionals buy these software and use it in a studio with the camera switched to live view.
When you want to use the camera, never leave something in the USB connector and make sure it is free from debris.
Any connection in the USB connector, can "fake" a computer or charger connection, and the camera waits till it gets a commend from that port. It won't listen to any command on any button.
When you are sure the connector is free and clean, remove the battery again and reinsert it.
If the error comes back, return the camera (or visit a Olympus certified repair centre) because it must be a warranty issue.

Software is unable to find Olympus Digital camera connected to USB port

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

How do you down load pictures to the computer from a olympus sp800uz

You must install special software that came with the camera to up load pictures to a computer with the cables that came with the camera. The detail is covered in the manual of which a copy can be down loaded from http://static.highspeedbackbone.net/pdf/olympus_SP-800UZ-Manual.pdf

A quick method of using the SD memory card in your camera to shoot pictures on, and then removing the card from the camera, plug it into a card reader attached to your computer. You also can insert the SD card directly into your printer if that printer has "PICT-BRIDGE". That means that the printer has a card reader built in. Many newer Lap Tops have a card reader built in. You may also attach a card reader by USB connection to your computer.

In any event all of the above are covered by the manual.

I can't figure this out. I am computer dumb and my husband always did this stuff for me but he died last year.I am trying to get the photos I took into my laptop so I can send them.

Ok this is an easy one.. You need to get a USB cable and software. The download link below, is for the driver, you install this Driver, as administrator, right click, install .exe and select run as Administrator http://www.olympus.co.jp/en/support/imsg/digicamera/download/software/
Now after you install the software you plug in the camera to the PC, via the USB port, (any) and then turn the camera on, it should be detected and then you run the software and "Get" you pictures. Also to help i recommend you get a Picture resizer, and use it to make the pictures the right size to send.. Link below, http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/Downloads/powertoys/Xppowertoys.mspx get it and down load and install, like before, then when you wish to resize a picture, you right click, and select resize.. follow instruction, then you can "Attach" the Picture to an Email.
If you don't have the cable etc. get one from say eBay...link below to give you the idea.

I NORMALLY JUST PLUG THE USB IN THE PC AND IT'S READY TO DO WHAT IT NEEDS TO DO, TODAY I PLUGGED IT UP AND IT SAID, THE COMPUTER COULDN'T DETECT IT SO DO I NEED A SOFTWARE PERHAPS.

No, it is saying that the hardware isn't being recognized which is done before any software applications run. The problem might be a dirty connection, static electricity on the motherboard, or a bad cable. Try:\

  1. turning the computer off by unplugging it after the OS shuts down, waiting about 30 seconds and staring it up fresh.
  2. Removing the cable and putting it back in.
  3. Blowing some canned air into the connection when the computer is turned off.
  4. Using a different USB port.
  5. Using a different USB cable.
Good luck!

Transferring pictures

Once the camera is attached to the computer via USB cable, windows explorer treats the camera card just like another hard drive. the same goes if the camera card is inserted into a card reader.

Because of this, the camera can be seen as a listed hard drive, (C:), (D:), (E:)..... With windows explorer open view "Computer", listing all existing drives, plug your usb cable into the computer and the camera. When you turn on your camera, AutoPlay begins. Choices range from import pictures to viewing pictures with whatever programs are loaded into you computer.

If not AutoPlay then just use Windows Explorer. The Camera will appear as "Removable Disk (K:) [(K:) is on my computer]. Opening this disk will show subdirectories "DCIM" and 100OLYMP. Your pictures are in 100OLYMP. They can be higlighted and drug into the folder of your choice on your computer.

View with windows media center, etc. or download Google's free PICASA 3. It can also download ("Import") your pictures.

good luck

Yes, the CB-USB4 cable (packaged with the camera) is required for downloading images from the camera. The stock number for a replacement cable is 200776. It can be purchased through the Olympus Emporium at: http://www.olympusamerica.com/store or by calling (800) 201-7766.
