Question about Watches

Open Question

I have a Bulova B187 Bardwell Mantel Chime clock. However, the chimes don't work right. They are one, two or three chimes off from what they should be doing. I tried removing and replacing batteries, and pushing the reset button, but still can't get the chimes to work right. Any suggestions?

SOURCE: I NEED THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR SETTING THE CHIMES/TIME ON MY WESTMIN

Manually turn the minute hand forward until the 16 westminster chimes sound and then the hour strikes. Then remove the minute hand (it will go on in four positions) and put it back on at the 12 o'clock position. The chimes should now be back into sync.

SOURCE: bulova mantel clock won't keep

Try CAREFULLY cleaning the mechanism with naphtha lighter fluid. Lighter fluid is high grade naphtha. Be careful not to allow it to run on to the face and electronics. It may damage the face with stain or remove any decals or cemented numerals. It may only take a small amount to clean the shaft bearings. The lighter fluid cleans and lubricates without leaving a film. If you can, while the fluid is on the gears, manually turn the clock forward 12 hours. That will rotate all the gears fully. Us the fluid sparingly!

SOURCE: I received the Bulova B1843

Your clock is an electric one so you should be able to turn the alarm off.

Look on the sides or the back for a switch.

There may also be a volume control knob.

If you are really desperate, find someone who is handy with a screw driver to take the back off and disconnect the chime! although I feel that this should not be needed for a well designed clock!

You have obviously looked around for controls but I hope this helps.

I'm afraid you have to visit clock repair shop, as without close inspection it is not possible to say what's wrong with your clock.

Press the red button at the back and go through all the hourly chimes until you get to the next chime due i.e. if its 3.15 whebn your doing this, only go through the chimes until 3 o'clock and no further. Then turn the hands clockwise ONLY never anticlockwide and she should be fine.

Elgin grandfather clock chimes not working

I'm not positive about this, but I seem to recall that these type of clocks have two "silence levers" on the movement. These levers are located at the upper left and upper right corners of the movement as you face the movement from the back. The movement back panel has to be removed if it has one.

If the levers are pushed toward the chime rods, they will silence the hour or musical chime, depending on which one it is. I believe the silence levers are supposed to be moved away from the chime rods so the rods can retract and then strike the chime bars.

Timex westminster anniversary chime clock doesn't chime correct number

Take the batteries out from the base, where the chime mechanism is. Wait till it gets close (20 seconds till) to a specific hour time, like 8:00 or 9:00, replace the batteries for the chime mechanism. And then count the chimes at the hour. If they are correct, you are set. If they are incorrect, turn the time back 15 minutes before the hour and bring it right back and monitor the chimes again. Hopefully this should fix it. Please post the results.
