Question about Pentair Pinnacle High Performance 1 HP Inground Pool Pump PFIIPI1

1 Answer

Hi - I have a 1 1/2 HP Pentair Pinnacle pump that has been making a bit of a grinding noise. It did so last season as well - my husband took it apart and we found that some debris had made it through the pump basket (I've replaced this now since it had a nice size crack in it) and was blocking the impeller. We took it apart again yesterday - no blockage, but it looks like the seal (I think it is the shaft seal) looks a little worn. Could that be the issue? When my filter turns off - my pump basket empties as well - so I am getting air somewhere. thank you~

Thanks so much -- I am going to buy a full repair set of seals for the pump and take care of everything all at once. The pump is only 6 years old, so I am hoping this takes care of it and I'm not looking at a new purchase.
    Thanks again - have a great day~

Yes it could well be the seal that is making the noise. This could also explain why you are getting air into your system. I would also check all fitting and pump casing for any leaks or hairline cracks.Good luck. Thank you.

I hear grinding inside my pool pump. It sounds like the bearings might be going bad? The pupm works fine, its just the grinding noise I hear? Thanks for any advice on what to check?

It could be either a bearing going bad in the pump OR your trap might not be filtering out all junk out of the water and some residue is inside the pump. If it is a bearing, there will be some metal shavings in the exhaust - so maybe a magnet would grab some of them to give you a clue on what is going on.

Low water flow

1. If your filter hasn't been backwashed, that's a good place to start. 2. If you haven't done a seasonal disassembly and washout of your filter, that will allow a residual to build up and keep your flow low. 3. The control selector may want to open that up and make sure there's no blockage in there as well... only as a last resort. 4. Also, remove the basket in the pump and reach in to the intake port and check for debris...that'll do it too. Let me know if you get the pressure back up! K

Pinnacle 1.5 hp inground pool pump making a lot of noise- it's only 2 years old and at the end of last season was much louder than it should be

Is pump moving water at a normal rate and pressure? If so, then you are in need of a bearing replacement. There is no specific lifetime for bearings or shaft seals, however two years would be at the lower end of scale. Have front and rear bearings replaced along with shaft seal.
