The CMOS battery of your computer is depleted.. Try to change it to save your BIOS setup including your time and date setting.

No you don't have to install a 64 bit OS. Only if you install over 3 gigs you MUST install a 64 bit operating system. 800MHZ is fine it will just back down to 667MHZ. your 32bit windows OS will see up to 3 gigs (minus graphics card memory). SO 2 gigs will work fine. Install one stick at a time and check in the OS and bios to make sure each stick works. I would say you possibly have a dead ram stick.

I have a Dell dimension 9150 which is 2 1/2 years old. Does it have a battery that I need to be concerned about replacing. I remember that used to be a problem with computers but don't know if that is...

Hi,
Every PC motherboard has a battery. That battery serves two purposes: to feed the configuration memory (also called CMOS) and to feed the real time clock of the computer (the one that show the date and the time).
An indication it is time to change the motherboard battery is receiving one of the following error messages when you turn on your computer: CMOS CHECKSUM FAILURE, CMOS BATTERY STATE LOW, CMOS SYSTEM OPTIONS NOT SET and CMOS TIME AND DATE NOT SET. Another indicator of a low battery is a clock that, after being set, runs well while the computer is on, but shows the wrong time when the computer is turned on the following day (it is late).

Dell Dimension 4700 won't boot properly.

Disconnect the hard drive and the floppy drive cable at the mother board. The retry POST and try to clear up any problems in POST. If this works fine then the floppy drive cable is either reversed at the unit or the hard drive is jumpered wrong.

Bios date and time problem

You need to replace the cmos battery in your computer. Theu are usually Cr2032 batteries which you should be able to pick up for about £1.

unplug your computer and open the case.
When you look at the motherboard you should be able to easily locate the cmos battery cliped onto the mobo.
Take the old battery out and insert the new one.
put the case back on and plug the pc into the mains again.
You will need to re-enter the date etc the next time you boot up, but the settings should be retained after that.

Dell 9150

This system has onboard RAID, sometimes it is simply because the RAID controller is in error, to get it out of error:

* Disconnect the power cable
* Hold power button for 15 seconds
* Release the power button
* Plug in power cable
* Start the computer

If this does not work, please provide information, is is Windows XP or Vista?

Computer will not boot, and makes error sounds

If you mean the computer is emitting a series of "beeps", then I would try reseating the memory modules. If that doesn't work, try using only one memory module at a time to determine if one might be defective.
