Before you change your screen resolution, you should know first the dimension of your monitor..
this is the common screen resolution for 22 inch LCD monitor: 1600 x 1024 1920 x 1080 up to 3840 x 2400
Note: You can only use this resolution if your video card supports this given screen resolutions. You can set your resolution through configuring the display setup.

Tip

How to resize your desktop background.

If your desktop is smaller than the dimensions of your monitor then follow the following steps to get a full screen:

Setting the resolution:

1) Right click on an open spot on your desktop and select Properties at the bottom of the popup menu.
slasher_x_35.jpg

2) This will then open up the Display Properties window as shown below.
slasher_x_36.jpg

3) Click on the Settings tab (it's to the top right of the Display Properties window as shown in the image below.
slasher_x_37.jpg

4) At the bottom left of the settings tab there is a Screen resolution heading with a slider bar beneath it.
5) Slide this bar to the left or right until you find the resolution you like.
6) The click Apply when you have found the right resolution.

Sliding the bar to the left = lower resolution, larger desktop icons and less quality.
Sliding the bar to the right = higher resolution, smaller desktop icons and better quality.
NB: If you are using a CRT (older screen) the max resolution will be around 1280x1024. Newer LCD screen (flat and thin monitors) can go way up to 1920x1080 and beyond if HD is supported.

NOTE: If when doing the screen resolution changes your screen goes blank after you click Apply then immediately hold down the Enter key to restore it back to your previous settings

If this doesn't work then it just maybe the case that you need to set the auto screen fit function on the monitor itself using the buttons provided on the monitor.

This tip is useful when you plug in a monitor and the screen displays the No Signal or Signal out of Range massages. Simply change the resolution to something the monitor can handle and there you go.

My desktop is only showing a strip of the picture. Everything else is fine. What can I do to restore my full picture on the desktop?

I'm guessing ur talking about background picture. Am i right?
In that case, you have to set your background picture, in order to fit the desktop. You can do it using left click on ur bakground and select Personalize -> desktop background, where you can find options "Fit To screen", "Tile" or "Center". Select "Fit To screen", then press ok. this should do it.
If you are using Vista as operating system. Before Vista, it varies where you can find the setting windows.

How do i adjust size of desktop background to fit screen

If you are using Windows Vista right mouse click on an empty area of the desktop and select personalize. Click on the tab for background and there are options there to fit to screen, stretch image, tile, etc. Select the stretch image and then apply. It will make the image fit your entire desktop. If you are using Windows XP it would basically be the same steps exceot when you right click you would select properties. Hope this helps.

My icons and tool bars are so big nothing I bring up fits on the screen.....I can make the internet smaller with the mouse wheel, but it shows in a very small space because of the very large tool bars....

Here are some tips to help you move around when you can't see other parts of the screen
Alt + Tab (hold down Alt and press tab) will move you between open windows
Tab will move you from button to button and to the file menu at the top
Shift + tab will move you back, for example if you hit the tab key one too many times
Alt + F4 will close the open window, if no window is selected it will bring up the shutdown computer screen
F5 will refresh a page on the Internet
F11 will switch between Full Screen mode and not full screen mode
So try getting to the "approved" window and then using tab to select it.

How to stretch screen compaq tft5015

Right click the desktop - select graphic properties - you should have the option to stretch to fit or something like that. This could also be that your resolution doesnt match your monitor. usual wide screen monitor defaults are 1280/1024 or 1400/1068.. have a mess around and alter these - see which one fits.

Windows XP not fitting full on 22 inch computer screen

Your new monitor will show a "native resolution". In the instructions below, try that setting first. If that fails try other settings.

- Right-click on an empty spot on your desktop
- Chose "Properties" on the menu that appears
- Click the "Settings" tab (at the top right)
- Move the "screen resolution" slider to a different number
- Click "apply"
- See how you like it
- Repeat until you get a setting you like.
