Dear Friend..

Yes, You can upgrade your system with a new Intel Pentium® 4 processor 2.8 GHz, 533 FSB , but only with the BIOS update. Make sure you have the bios version P06 or greater. See the link below:

http://support.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/d845grg/sb/cs-009954.htm.

If a get a new processor as above, do not forget to update your bios with the the utility available on intel's site.

I am sure, this helps you. For any additional help, you can ask me..

The Dual and Quad core processors will not fit on your motherboard because it does not have the CPU pins that the later CPUs.
You best bet is to upgrade the motherboard in your computer and the switch mode power supply.
OR
Get a new desktop computer.

Computer Does not work correctly with Radeon 9250 Graphics Card

Hmm? Everything except replacing the motherboard, sometimes it does not get any better, but...go into your BIOS and turn off the Gateway splash screen. It will be an option in maybe the first or second menu choice. Make sure your on board video device is disabled and save your options when exiting. Good luck and let me know how it turns out.

Motherboard upgrade

That computer uses a proprietary motherboard. Only that one or one from the same Gateway family will fit, and the power supply from an old PIII will not work with the newer systems. Don't waste your cash.

PROCEDURE FOR REINSTALLING DRIVERS ON REPLACEMENT MOTHERBOARD

1. Go to the gateway site www.gateway.com
2. Click on the download drivers link
3. type in your part number

if they do not have the drivers , perhaps www.driverguide.com may have them , I personaly do not recommend using driverguide because I find their site difficult to use , and their drivers may not be
100% accurate match. I only recommend them as the LAST resort.

Compatibility

A8V-MXs are built for AMD processors. You will need a board made for Intel processors if you want to purchase the above processor. If you want to stick with Intel and Asus check out the P5 series of boards. If not, buy an AMD chip...I've had AMD in almost every one of my computers, laptops and desktops.

Good luck.

BIOS DISPLAYING INCORRECT CPU SPEED

Hi, I have to agree "...that the motherboard's bios doesn't recognize the processor and that I should upgrade the bios...". Though I think that this is only a display issue and not necessarily true CPU speed. You can check if the correct CPU is displayed inside Windows by right click on My Computer and details would be shown in the System Properties. To upgrade the BIOS: 1. Determine/log your current BIOS and its date by pressing Pause on initial boot when motherboard details are shown; 2. Continue booting by pressing escape and run your Windows normally. Go to the website of your motherboard manufacturer and verify if they have an updated BIOS (compare date of release). If an updated BIOS is available, download. Likewise download the flashing utility. Further instructions are also available on a step by step procedure. Some newer mb versions/models have a Window based update feature. Check if you have such. Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back how things are or should you need further information. Good luck and kind regards.
