Question about Raypak Pool Heater Gas 130000 BTU' (Pilot Light) ()

1 Answer

We have a Raypak heater (model P-R335A-EN) that fires up, seems to run for 20 or 30 min then the burners shut down and it doesn't start up again. Most of the time no codes are shown but we did get an SNS once and changed the temp sensor. We've used a jumper on the high limit switch, and when the pump goes off we get a PRS code which tells me the pressure switch is working. There is a max temp setting on the back of the RP 2100 digital control panel which is set at 105 but the pool only gets up to about 74 degrees before the burner goes off despite the set point on the display being 82. The unit uses an electronic pilot and it got to 75 today before shutting down with the flame icon blinking and I can't see a pilot light. On the back of the display cover there is a schematic labeled 'Diagram- Wire HD Dual Digital' and below that it says, 'Series VE' and then 152425. Anyone have any suggestions on how I can trouble shoot this or what the problem may be?

Check the igniter on pilot assembly for soot build up, this igniter also acts as sensor for pilot flame proving, it will detect less heat from pilot flame if there is soot formed on and will not fire up burners. Check also the location of the temperature probe that you have replaced, it may not have sensed correct water temperature. If you think that hi limit is bad, you have to replace it right away because hi limits on all gas fired equipments is the safety device of the system in terms of preventing over heating which could result damage on property or life.

I have a raypak 2100, looks like its a 1997 model (seriel# starts with a 97). Unit starts up fine, runs for about 5 minutes and shuts off. It's not close to reaching temp, and I get get it start back up...

If your Raypack (mine is a 2100 but most have the same electronic ignition pilot) lights and runs for about 2-5 minutes an then shuts off, you need to clean the pilot sensor. The pilot sensor tells the unit the Burners are running. If the pilot sensor becomes corroded, carbon, etc. the unit will light but will shut off after a few minutes as it thinks the unit is not operating properly. The unit will try to re light, but fail, and then PLT will show on the main programming screen. To fix the probelm, shut off the unit power. Remove the pilot assembly which is located at the bottom right of the unit. There is one screw holding the pilot assembly in place. Gently remove the pilot assembly. There is a fork like probe sensor (not the one with ignition and gas feed) that needs to be cleaned. Take some rough sand paper and clean it thoroughly. Re insert pilot assembly and fire the unit. If this fails, clean the sensor again. Problem solved!

RayPak 2100 series digital pool heater Code "EOL".

press the mode button until the display reads "off". Remove the four screws holding the control cover on. Swing panel down so that the back of the board is visible. Press the mode button until "RESfl" appear. Press and hold both "up" and "down" buttons for 5-7 seconds until three dashes appear (---). This resets the fault history and clears any stored faults.
