Format your hardrive for Mac OS:
Go to Disk Utilities under the go menu in your finder. Select the external drive and click on the erase tab. Clikc erase again and it formats the drive. You can now copy files onto the drive.

SOURCE: Cannot configue the device
The disk should install automatically. You can check if your USB ports are configured to USB 2.0 and not the older USB 1.1 (in the Bios).
Also check the Device Manager to see if anything is listed as unknown or other, which means you might need to update/install a driver.

SOURCE: Device unable to start
Make sure the product is not under warranty (12 months after purchase) open it up and identify the hard drive, it might be Segate, contact them on their web site to see if the drive is still under warranty, it might be, check the link below. You can replace the drive with another one (same brand) if it is out of warranty.

Once it is connected, it should show up in your My Computer folder as a removeable drive. You use it like your hard drive on your computer to move and copy files to. Just open your hard drive on your computer, select the files you want to copy or move to the new drive and right click on the selection, click on the send to option on the menu and it will be one of the options to send the files to.
