Question about Husqvarna Sewing Machines

3 Answers

Hi, I own a Husqvarna Platinum Series embroidery sewing machine. I also have 4D Embroidery and a d-Card Reader Writer. When I first tried to install the Reader Writer I had numerous problems that were finally resolved when I installed a new USB hub on my computer. (running XP) However, a few weeks ago the motherboard on our computer burnt out, so we bought a new iMac. I know 4D is not compatible with Mac , so I had the old computer repaired especially for using my embroidery software. Unfortunately, now the old computer refuses to allow me to reinstall the Reader Writer. I get the error, "Fatal error occurred during installation". I have tried deleting and reinstalling drivers, updating everything I can but nothing seems to help. I have written to Husqvarna/Viking but have had no reply (after two weeks) I am ready to sell the whole lot and be done with embroidery forever - I am so frustrated. Any ideas?

The operating system is Windows XP, 32 bit. It is not the software that is the problem but the hardware - the Reader Writer unit, that will not install. The software (4D Embroidery) is perfectly fine, but I need to add the Reader Writer to read and write embroidery d-cards to use with my embroidery machine. Hope this helps

Yes. When I first bought the Reader Writer, (about a year ago) the computer would sometimes recognise it and other times wouldn't, Viking advised getting an additional USB hub (non universal, I think) which we did and it worked fine from then, until the motherboard broke and now it will not install at all. So I don't think it is the hub... I just don't know

THe found new hardware message come up and I go through the whole installation process and all appears good until the very end when I just get the "fatal error occurred during installation" message.

  • brentonwi224 May 27, 2011

I have tried following these instructions (I did a search for that error) but will try again and get back to you, in a while

Worked through the steps on Microsoft support as best I could. Updated my Windows Installer to latest version. Still not working. When I go to device manager on the USB Root hub I see my REader Writer but it has a yellow exclamation mark next to it. I have tried the update driver, uninstallreinstall options from there but nothing works. Husqvarna recommended on their FAQ help to "Enable Legacy USB Devices in BIOS," which I did. Still not working...am I overlooking something obvious?

  • brentonwi224 May 27, 2011

Hi, I have done what they said, as far as I was able. Updated my Windows Installer to latest version. I completely uninstalled whole 4d Embroidery software and drivers to exclude any possiblity of conflicting drivers, then reinstalled the whole thing including updates etc. still doesn't work. Other devices plugged into the hub work OK. I get the whole Found new Hardware message and it goes through the whole installation process until the end. When I go to Device Manager I see the Reader Writer in the USB Hub but it has a yellow question mark next to it. Any ideas?

  • brentonwi224 May 28, 2011

I have tried all the suggestions. What it comes down to it seems is a Code 1 error, which means the device is not configured properly. But, I cannot configure! I have downloaded the most recent drivers but still will not install. Any suggestions anyone?

Hi, Thanks for the advice. Just to let you know, everything else on my computer is running fine, computer shop reinstalled and updated everything for me. Service Pack 3 is installed and automatic update is applied. I have tried in every port on the computer. I have also now spent hours at our local Husqvarna Sewing Centre, with both our computers and the technician there couldn't get it running on our PC or laptop. It worked OK on their shop computers. ??? She was completely at a loss to explain it. As was their "expert" interstate. The basic problem seems to be installing the drivers. The drivers are on the installation software CD, but the computer just won't install them. On the laptop, (Vista 64 bit) it tells me the installation was interrupted before it could be completed! It just seems as though some setting is stopping them from installing. I will check out that the USB controller is set to accept/run USBv1.1 and USBv2.0, though, and let you know. The Sewing Centre will be interested to hear if I resolve the problem too as they were perplexed as I am. Thanks

Since your old mainboard burnt out and a new mainboard was installed in you computer system you will start by installing the drivers for the new mainboard. These include audio, video, LAN and chip-set drivers, they can all be found on the disk that would have came with your mainboard.
Then once those drivers are installed, update your Widows installation which includes Service packs and security updates.
You are running Windows XP so you will need to install service pack 3.

To check your service pack version right click the My Computer icon on the desktop and select properties.
Near the middle of the screen it should tell you the Service pack you are running.

Next up is to navigate to your Windows control Panel and double click security center.
Select the option to automatically update Windows. Click Apply.

It may be an idea to simply try the device in an available USB port. Since this is a new mainboard it may work.
Try the ports at the rear, keep trying another port you may also try the front ports if they are available.
Now install the drivers for the USB hub.

If that still fails then you will have to enter the BIOS/CMOS by tapping the Delete key during first powering on your computer, before the beeps and ensure that the USB Controller is set to accept/run USB v1.1 and USB v2.0

Try do as much of this as you can yourself, you may need to call in a computer technician. Children are also very good with computers, if you get stuck they will be more than happy to show you what to do.

Take care and happy embroidering!

Very good work, That was a good idea to try the machine on another computer as now we know that the Sewing machine is indeed working. I think it is possible that your anti-virus software may be stopping the drivers from installing. Either both your laptop and the desktop computers are infected with viruses or if they are running the same anti-virus program then I have reason to believe the anti-virus program is blocking the driver from executing.
Scan the hard drives on both computers for viruses, if you do find any viruses delete them. Try Avast free anti-virus, Malwarebytes Anti-malware and Emsisoft Anti-Malware. You may use the free versions. Then once the drives have been scaned, remove the internet connection and disable your current anti-virus program, now try and install the driver.

    Tell me how it goes!
    Take care!

Welcome to FixYa!
Disable your anti-virus and firewall. Insert the card reader/writer to the computer. Insert the memory card to the card reader. Do windows update. Install all updates including optional updates. Restart the computer with the card reader/writer and memory card on it.
Note: Fatal Error is commonly a hardware error. It is possible that the card reader/writer is damaged or the motherboard has hardware issues already.
I hope this helps. Thank you for using FixYa. Have a great day. Jas247

4D d-Card Reader/Writer Kit and Husqvarna Quilt Designer II

Assume you are loading your designs using Organizer? Yes? I have very limited experience of this, preferring to use Disk Manager (but you need to have this program which I am guessing you don't).

It is my understanding that Organizer will only load one design to an embroidery media, not a whole menu of various designs. However you obviously are not "seeing" even one design. Did a pre-loaded Husqvarna card come with your machine? I think it should have, but if it didn't then that doesn't help you very much either.

I am wondering if the D-card is not "formatted" for embroidery recognition. The Designer machines like to receive their designs in a certain file arrangement but I'm afraid I can't offer you advice on how to format the card - I do my formatting through Disk Manager.

However, while I was writing the above it did occur to me - are you loading designs that are the .shv format? Your machine will not recognize .hus, .vip, .vp3 or any other format. Please write back to this group and let me know if any of the above was useful to you. I belong to a Yahoo group that deals exclusively with Designer machines, so I will ask the group members if they can come up with any helpful advice.

Reader/Writer for Viking Rose-Do I have to replace?

I would reccomend that you go to the dealer and think about upgrading your machine, I used to have a Rose. I upgraded and am happy I did, I think you can get the 4D with some of the new machines...if not deal for it with your new machine.

My viking platinum 955-E will not sew design loaded on D Card.

When you are saving designs in your software, be sure to hit the Centre button and also the Centre Design in Hoop button. Click "Apply" then save your design. Also worth checking that there are no stray stitches outside your design. Click on the Edit tab (bottom left of screen). If there are stitches outside your design, click on them (or use the lassoo tool to surround them) and hit "Delete". Be sure you are not deleting essential parts of your design. This is assuming you have 4D Embroidery, Embroidery Extra or the 4D Pro Suite. These buttons and features are not available in Organizer.

Your reader writer will not work unless you have the Husqvarna Viking software to drive it. The first level of the software is called 4D Embroidery. Their web site does a great job at showing the features and benefits. It sells for $400 and if you buy it from your local dealer, they usually offer classes. It is not difficult software to figure out.

I need a driver for a husquvarna 3D reader/writer card, where can I find one

Info on Husqvarna Viking website - http://www.husqvarnaviking.com

When installing the 4D Embroidery System onto Windows 7 computers, the dongle drivers may not initially work correctly, as the 4D Embroidery System installs a set of dongle drivers which were created before Windows 7.
Download and install the latest dongle drivers prior to installing the 4D Embroidery System. Failure to do this, may result in the "Dongle driver not found (E0009)" when you try to open the 4D modules.
Please follow the steps below to install the latest dongle drivers BEFORE installing the 4D Embroidery System
  1. Download and install the latest Dongle Drivers.
  2. Insert your 4D Dongle.
  3. Install your 4D Embroidery System software (and all updates).
  4. Open your 4D Embroidery System software to confirm that your dongle is working correctly.
If you installed the 4D Embroidery System software before installing the latest dongle drivers and if you experience problems such as the error message "Unable to start hasplms service..."; download and install the latest Dongle Drivers.

Viking Rose can't install System 5 software

You may be able to find an old computer with Windows 95 or 98. Make sure that it also has a parallel port for the older R/W boxes.

You may also find that the 4D Embroidery package will do what you wish to do and it is under $400. 4D Embroidery Extra is the $700 package.

If you only want to put existing designs onto the card with no manipulation, you can get the Reader/Writer kit, $199 MSRP that includes Organizer which will allow you to load 1 design to your card at a time.

Unfortunately, System 5 was replaced by VIP which was replaced by 3D which was replaced by 4D. I don't think that system 5 will run on anything newer than Windows 98.

4D Extra and Reader/Writer

QUESTIONS:
is the reader writer a USB or parallel cord? (they have both.
If it's USB you need the 256K card otherwise the regular card, and yes it can work you just have to have the right card for your reader writer.
