its easy just change the lens of your ps2. cause here in the phillipines their are shops that do that kind of convertion... try looking a ps2 lens at google.
It's quite possible that your PS2's chip is malfunctioning, thus not recognizing original cds. Pirated CDs don't have a protection, thus the chip can't de-protect the original cds, not allowing them to be read.
Another cause would be that the discs are damaged.
Tell me what you need? You want to change the setting of your ps2 ? That where you can change, but if you trying to load a game and it is coming on system configuration. There are some reasons why. The Game CD or DVD is not reading because too many scatches, cd games not working, or your psp is not modified to load pirated games.
There are multiple "Mods" which can be performed on a PSP (as well as on newer consoles as well).
Some are hardware mods (the addition of chips which expand or bypass (depending on a particular mod) to allow the recognition and playback of various formats, such as 3rd party software. The problem with modding is that if someone isn't careful, the mod can also brick the system (keep it from recognizing the original, retail PS2 games, movies, etc....
Besides that, I can't tell you much more about pirating software, since it's illegal and I'm no advocate of that. You should ask your friend what specific "Mod" was performed, if that's even the case.
PS.. My advice - Don't let anyone modify the hardware on any of your devices, unless you don't care if they ever work again. Also, you can't play online games/content with modded systems...since they are automatically detected and banned from the servers.
If you are using copy / pirate disks, the Ps2 Will not pick this up unless it is "chipped," which is very risky both in a way to harm the console and in a way to get you arrested as it is illegal.
If you've had the console a long time and not a problem like this before - The laser has probably burned out. No point in buying a new laser because you would be cheaper buying a new Ps2 Console
