Make sure the hard disk is plugged as a master, alone, in the first IDE connector. Then make sure it's formatted to NTFS and set as active - use this for that
http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php
If even this disk can't detect it then either the hdd or the motherboard have a defect - find this out by connecting another disk and see how it goes.

ok the gpatred disk got me to its main screen ... now what ??lol thanks for the quick rsponse

Disk boot failure - failure of the hard disk on which Windows is installed. Since you are using a different disk for the Windows install this clearly indicates that the motherboard is unstable - it's dying of old age.
Last test to confirm that - try to boot from a Linux Live-CD and install it and see how it behaves. Usehttp://www.pclinuxos.com/

XPS-410 needs to have MCE 2005 Rollup two SP3 replaced by Windows 7 64 bit. Too many problems to list currently but will work limited programs

Not sure what you are trying to do. If you are trying to convert 32 bit to 64 bit Apps, try going to manufacturers website to look for drivers.
Win 7 will actually find the best drivers for your devices.

You can try a 3rd party data recovery software to recover your data off the media drive.I have succeed to recover data from external hard drive with Tenorshare data recovery. It can recover data after deeply scanning your portable drive to look for lost data due to drives crash, physical damage, system sabotage, virus corrupted partitions etc.Download it and scan your media drive for free to preview whether your data can be recovered. http://www.any-data-recovery.com/product/datarecoveryprofessional.htm

Turn on computer and get promt no op sys try to load a new op sys like win 7 from my win 7 disk that I got and it say no harddrive

If you can get BIOS to open, then check to see if it is booting from a CDROM first. If you have an OS disk, put this in an try to boot. If it shows a hard drive, remove partition and then recreate and format it. This should fix it so that you can install Windows. One time I had to do it 2 or 3 time, but it finally worked. Then 2 weeks later the HD failed, as if it was trying to warn me all along. If you are using PATA drives make sure you have the jumpers set right for master and slave (I know it is old school, but you never know.)

Installed new hard drive into Toshiba M35X-S163 due to old HD completely breaking, installed new 320gb HD, but the recovery disk from Toshiba doesn't want to work, keeps 'cycling' the recovery process,...

You will need to talk to whoever you got the HD from. It should have come with a format disk since HD have barely changed over the last ten years they can still be setup for just about anything form FAT16 to the latest Mac use.
The reason you are having troubles is that the HD doesn't know what format you are giving it. Whenever i have bought a new HD it comes with a disc to format then you are good to use the OS disc to load up it is possible that the recovery disc is setup only for a Toshiba setup HD and not another generic format. you might what to call the toshiba help line (800) 457-7777 that is straight from their website. Best of luck my friend

GETTING A "[DOIT.BAT] MD3PATCH - ERROR SETTING UP THE MD3 POWER BUTTON" MESSAGE WHEN TRYING TO FORMAT MY NEW HARD DRIVE AND REINSTALL WINDOWS

1. In first place the MD 3.0 cd must be used before you install any OS. It allows you to partition the HD by assigning a size for de C: (operating system partition). The rest of the HD is automatically assigned for the partition D: and for the space required for MD3.

2. At this point the MD is not yet installed. You are request to install your OP with you OP install cd. After you install the OP you are ready for really installing the MD3.

THE SOLUTION:

I found a BIOS update at:

http://support.dell.com/support/down...id=-1&impid=-1

I ran this update from Windows.

After that I restart my computer from the MD3 cd. It will format your HD and you will follow the steps to reinstall.

I formatted my hard drive now my media center doesent work

What is the Dell model name?

Did you put in and install the drivers from the drivers CD that comes with the PC? The drivers are on a separate CD from Windows and need to be installed separately after Windows is finished.

If you've gone through the driver installs, including the graphics driver, and you still get the message, post back and I'll help you find the right driver.

Hope this helps!
