I managed to solve this by manually installing a "Japanese" driver for that keyboard. It seems this will also disable the touchpad, so make sure that after (or even better, before) you mess around with the driver, have an external USB mouuse and Keyboard, as that's the only way you'll be able to use those two interfaces with the built in KB and touchpad running on different drivers.
