I just bought a new lap with ST9250315 AS HDD and i can't install winXP on it. First setup crashed, but i changed the BIOS setup for IDE instead of AHCI. After that installation goes ok until i needed to format disk from FAT 32 to NTFS, when system reboot just doesn't run again, a grey screen appears and nothing happens. however bios work without problem. what can i do for fiz this issue? thanks

Sometimes, recent hardwares (laptop components) don't have its drivers for XP1 & 2. (It conflicts.)
Try with XP3. Otherwise, you have to reinstall win7 and run win XP virtually under win7.

The Windows XP disc you are using doesn't that the Hard Drive Controller Driver for that system native to the operating system. Since the system is a Mini and has no floppy drive the only option is to slipstream the HDD controller drivers into the OS CD.

Check your BIOS setup for the SATA interface settings. If it's set to "Native" or something to that effect, change it to "Compatible" or "IDE" or similar, and try installing XP again.
As a last resort, you may need to supply SATA drivers for your motherboard (unpacked, with all the individual files visible) during the setup, when it says something like "press [something] to supply 3rd party device driver". The problem is, that Windows expects it on a diskette...

You need to go into the BIOS and change the SATA type to IDE and not AHCI. I had this same problem on my laptop. Once I switched it to IDE it installed XP no problem. I don't know if Vista or 7 work with it set to IDE mode.

Displays no hard drive found wen installing win xp

You have to go to BIOS setup, find HDD setup, and change the value to the other one (there are only two possibilities). That will fix your problem. The problem is caused by the fact that the lap top was designed for vista, not XP. and the lap top contains SATA HDD. when installing XP pre-installation doesn't have SATA drivers, so your OS can not see the HDD. Change it in BIOS, and you trouble is gone

Be sure that SATA is enabled in your BIOS settings. Sometimes if the computer ships with an IDE drive, the company that builds them will disable SATA in the BIOS. Also, while you are in your BIOS, if you decide to use just the SATA drive, you need to disable your IDE and set the bios up to boot the computer from your new drive on the SATA connector.

Try to delete the partition of your HDD and then create another one an format it to NTFS. Set the bios to boot from CD, Once the setup disk for XP loads, Try to follow the steps I provided.

For the Best OS, you need to make sure the computer is able to get the requirements for certain OS.
For WinXP atleast 256 MB RAM(recomended 512mb),For Vista 512MB(recommended 1gb)

What type of HDD is your new one? SATA, IDE?

Do you have any USB disk devices plugged in to your system? USB hard drive or flash stick or other SD cards? Remove them and try rebooting again. These can sometimes take precedence over your HDD and your system will not boot.
