Question about GE (PSS26MSRSS) Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

Freezing in refrig and freezer.

Had a leak from bottom of freezer with substandard freezer/refrigerator function. Service installed new "electronic board" located in back of freezer side. Said it was burned out. Also put surge protector in outlet and plugged appliance into it. After 24 hours the refrigerator contents were also frozen on top 2 shelves. Adjusted temp in freezer and refrig. allowing 12-16 hrs. after each adjustment. Currently the freezer and refrig are set on level 3 and each side continues to freeze. Liquids such as milk, juice, and water freeze solid in refrig section even on level 3. Before the repair both sections ran perfectly on level 5. What gives????

Call the tech back... the control board may be fauilty or install incorrectly.. the water leak is from a pluged drain hose or your ice maker leaking not from a control board...

Vegetables in crisper are frozen, as well as liquids in bottom 1/2 of fridge door. The fridge & freezer temp controls won't adjust to our settings. Also, we're getting ice, but no water will dispense.

The freezer cools the refrigerator, so you actually get very cold air passing from the freezer to the refrig. The air from the freezer enters the refrig on the top and falls to the bottom where it is drawn back into the freezer. The temperature of the refrig is regulated by a thermostat and a fan that runs when the thermostat calls for cooling. If the refrig thermostat is faulty and causes the fan to run more than it should, there will be a freezing problem in the refrig at the bottom because cold air falls and warm air rises. If the refrig is thermostat is calling for cooling constantly, this will take more cold air from the freezer than is normal. Your freezer temp might be higher than normal and the refrig will be colder then desired. If the fan from the freezer is running constantly I would suspect a bad refrig thermostat.

Tip

What is wrong when your side by side refrig. leaks from inside the freezer

The water is from the melted frost of the defrost cycle. The drain at the bottom of the back wall of the freezer is blocked so instead of the water draining into the pan where it will evaperate,it's pooling on the freezer floor and freezing, in many case when the floor indent is full the water will leak onto the floor.By pulling the refrigerator out from the wall, there will be a tube behind the service panel on the right side when looking at it from the rear, that tube can be removed and cleared, then clear the nozzle it connects to inside the freezer.

I hope this helps you to stop the leak,
Gene

Refrigerator is cold, freezer not freezing

Amana refrig have 2 main problems . 1 is the defrost bimetal ( 1" cylinder at the top right on the freezer coils with 2 wires ) and the other is a refrigerant leak where the copper tubing joins the aluminum tubing at the freezer coils ( evaporator coils ) . If your freezer fan is not working and you have frost on the freezer coils then replace the bimetal as this also controls the defrost heater ( defrost thermostat ) . If you have no frost on the coils ( for both checks , you will have to remove the inside rear freezer panel , maybe 12 screws ) , then a refrigerant leak has happened and the best solution would be to replace the refrig .

Water freezing on bottom of freezer

The defrost drain pan is plugged and not allowing the water to drain into the pan under the refrig. Remove the cover on the back wall of the freezer and clear the drain by flushing with hot water.

Water dispenser freezing on viking refrig

One thing that can cause this s the removal of the styrofoam block that surrounds the water reservoir. A lot of people think this is just for shipping but it is necessary to prevent the water freezing.

If it is missing it ill need to be replaced.

Food is freezing in the bottom drawer of my Maytag side by side

check to make sure the slide controls for teh bottom drawer is set to vegtables also it is not uncommon for the temps in the bottom drawer of your refrig to drop down to freezing if you have infrequent door openings. you may also try setting the refrig temperature to a warmer setting as well. thx Peyton
