Question about Whirlpool Refrigerators

1 Answer

I have a Whirlpool Refigerator (double door, freezer over cooler). Its model number is WBM35 IX (made in 2003). Lately I have problems in the fridge. The freezer freezes the items. But there is no cooling in the fridge. Moreover I dont see any cool air being blown either in the freezer or in the cooling compartment. Could it be because of a fan failure?

My guess is the fan has gone on it. Mine did the same thing. The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer compartment via a fan that is usually in the back of the freezer. It's not a hard replacement, if you're tech-savvy (took me about 1/2 hr.) and the part will cost you about 40 to 70 dollars, depending on where you buy it (priced mine out at $70, I think, but found a local guy who sold me one for $40. It's called an "Evaporator Fan" and I believe this link will show you a possible replacement for it (The crappy part is that you need to take the old one out to look at it to be sure). Good luck.

Thanks mate. I will go and find one in the local market here as I live in Dubai and cannot buy online. I will try to replace it by myself.

Since the fridge is electronic, there has been a continuous beeping; could be because of it. I am just wondering if I can get the manual somehow.

Not sure what to tell you there. I'm just one of them guys who fixes (or breaks) all my own stuff, so I have to figure stuff like that out. I had just bought my fridge for $50 and a week later I had to put the evaporator fan in it. But for $90, I still got a great deal. BTW, I know you said Whirlpool, but the guy told me that the Frigidaire ones like mine go out like once every 3 yrs. and I believe they're all pretty much the same part. Again, good luck my friend; it's bedtime.

What are matching models for Whirlpool Oven door model AKZ456/IX

As You may know, Whirlpool also builds Kenmore products, that being said, You would be far better off buying the exact model door for Your oven. The joy You may get from saving a "C" note on an alternative door option could turn into a Personal B*tt Kicking contest when You discover it almost worked, You CAN'T send it back and You still have to buy the right one. Best of Luck to You.

Not cooling

Sounds like a defective start relay, run capacitor overload and possibly a defective condenser fan may have started the problem. What is the correct model number found around the fresh food section door?

PSG25 side by side GE; Frrezer is perfect but refigerator is goig under temperature set. Technician replaced motherboard and sensors with no luck :-(

As I am a certified GE technician, I need to ask, has or did the person at your home use a computer on your unit? Reason I ask is that we use a computer to see up has failed in the unit determine what has happen. Either way, I have notice a high call for door switch lately, I would open the refer section and test the door switch, it could be turning your compartment light on with the door closed and cause the same problem even melt butter to a liquid. Other possibility could be that the freezer is frosted, this model does not share air between compartments, and if a sensor failed it can cause this. Yes the unit has 4 sensors and they run about 13-20 dollars.
Each compartment has 2 sensors
I would like to help you further, need complete model number from the unit not the book or the door, its inside unit on a sticker.
I hope this helps

The freezer section of my whirlpool double door refrigerator becomes too cool while refrigerator section does not cool lower than 56 deg F. Setting of Freezer section is at minimum cool (extreme left)...

when you open the freezer door you should hear a fan running, that's what cools your refrigerator section. If you don't hear that fan, that may be the problem. Also if there is frost on the back panel of the freezer that also may indicate a defrost problem, which could cause the same problems

Since you are convinced that the circuit is sufficient, look for a voltage drop during start up. In the unique case, when both units try to start at the same time, a voltage drop can cause overamping and trip the breaker.
Look at that and let me know if we need to go any farther
