Question about Sega Genesis Console

Picture scrolls up

I have the genesis hooked up to my Toshiba 57HX84 rear projection TV and when I turn it on the picture will scroll up the screen and be replaced by an image below it, and it will go on and on forever (sort of like tracking on a VCR). Seemed like a problem with a dirty something so I tried it on two other TVs, a CRT and an LCD and it works like a charm. I also have an Atari 2600 hooked up to the Toshiba and it works fine. Just seems like the Genesis hates that one TV (or vice versa). Any clue? Thanks!

Im living at residence  and I just bought a genesis for 8$ at value village' I dont have a controller but it came with all the cords so i hooked it up into the tv in the common room its a relatively new tv I guess. and it turns on fine the I har the sega sega start up sound then the sonic music kicks in. The whole time all I can see are black and white stripes going up and down the screen like "bad vcr tracking". Ill try and find an older tv in my res or at the vv. Any other suggestions, I opened up my genesis and whipped it down with a glasses cleaner (no chemicals just the cloth) and screwed everything back on. any other suggestions? ps its not the game cause the system does the same thing with no game inserted.

I am not sure the model, but my Toshiba TV does the same thing. I have Nintendo, Playstation 1, and Playstation 2 and they are all perfectly fine. Every other TV in the house plays the Sega perfect.

Precautions Concerning TV Screen Damage (Image Retention)
Some televisions can be damaged when a stationary image is maintained on the screen for long periods of time, as this could potentially "burn" the stationary image into the screen. This image retention can result from a variety of sources, including test patterns, VCR on-screen programming screens, or picture-in-picture boxes. Playing video games with stationary images or patterns, or leaving video games on hold or pause, may also lead to this type of damage.

Before using your Nintendo system with any TV, especially front and rear projection type TVs, be sure to review all documentation included with your TV to find out whether video games can be played on the TV without damaging it.
When taking a short break, place the game on pause and turn the TV off until you are ready to play again.
If you are not sure about your TV, contact the manufacturer of the TV for more information.
Neither Nintendo nor any of Nintendo's licensees will be liable for any damage to your TV.

Projection TVs (front and rear):
Due to their design, front and rear projection TVs can be more susceptible to image retention. Remember to be sure to review all documentation included with your TV to find out whether video games can be played on your TV without damaging it.

High-Definition TV's (HDTV):
Projection style HDTVs display the image in much the same manner as other type projection TVs and as such, the same possibility of image retention exists. HDTV's that use a tube screen should be no more susceptible to image retention than standard TVs that use a tube screen. For either type of HDTV, follow the precautions on this page.

Plasma TVs or LCD Screens:
We have no information on Plasma TVs or LCD type TVs. Since image retention is a variable of the TV, please check your TV manual or contact the manufacturer directly before connecting any video game system to your television.

My sega genesis has a clear picture but static sound can someone help?

Try an older TV set. I am not joking. It might very well be the case that newer TV sets/high-end TV systems can't handle the signals of the older video game consoles. Because the newr tv;s don't have the signal transfer inside of them to make the old consoles work so you could use the genesis av cables to hook up to a digital tv instead of the rf switch.

I can't see the picture from the game on my tv

Try hooking up the Genesis to a different TV. If it works, then there's something wrong with the TV or the connector between the Genesis and the TV. If it doesn't work, then the Genesis is most likely on it's way to becoming a paper-weight, or once again the connector could be bad.

Sega Genesis Video Problem

Maybe you are supposed to be on Channel 4. There should be a 3-4 switch on your RF adapter. Try wiggling the video connection in the back of your genesis and see if that fixes anything, it might be a lose port, in which case you have to wrap the cable underneath the genesis or something heavy to keep it at a working angle (if you find a working angle).

It is also possible your RF cable is bad. They aren't that much on ebay, but make sure you buy one for your model (there are 2 models of genesis and they use different RF cables)

I hope this helps somewhat.

Problem with the 1st generation sega genesis

If the screen changes (From snow to black or something) when the console is turned on it sound like the console is partially working. Try cleaning the Cardridge pins que tip and some sort of cleaning fluid.

Once this is done insert and eject the cartridge several times then repeat the cleaning process on the cartridge. Hope this helps.
