Question about Sony DCR-SR220D, DCR-SR290E, DCR-SR300, and DCR-SR300C Battery (Premium Japanese Cells, 1300mAh, 5-Y...

Camcorder: DCR-SR300 Problem: Absolutely Dead What Happened: While charging in the Handycam Station/cradle (DCRA-C171) the AC Power Adaptor (AC-L200) got very hot and melted the unit. What I did: I replaced the Adaptor but the Camcorder will not work even with the Power plugged directly into the Camcorder--almost like a fuse is blown. Also, with a fully charged battery there is no power to the Camcorder.

Thank you for your kind and prompt reply. To repair this camera myself is beyond my technical ability. Do you know someone who can repair this and do you know what the approximate fair price would be in US Dollars (USD)?

If you have owned it less then a year I would have it repaired under warranty. If over a year I would decide whether repair or replacement is your best option. There are many independent repair facilities online that give free repair estimates. You can also contact sony. It sounds like the heat may have damaged some internal components and there is no easy fix but needs to be repaired by a professional.
Thank you,
Lee

As noted by you the camcorder fuse is blown but this can happen if there was a malfunction of the adapter which could have resulted in failure of power section devices in the camcorder. Now the fuse is always linked with the battery and the power and so a total power off is seen to be a failure in the board. If you are technically able you can open the section on the battery pack side, remove the covers to check the front end power section, the battery to the adaptor socket where the fuse is located. if the fuse blows off then you have problems which need attention. it can be failure of regulator in the power, a safety surge protection or failure in drive circuit.
Disconnect sections to the drives, isolate and switch on to confirm. test the power to the processor, if absent check the +5 volt regulator.
If beyond you need to get help.

I have a Sony Handycam DCR-SR82. The station has gone bad. I cannot locate one. Any help with this

It is actually a 'Handycam Station' - it is a docking station for charging the battery. Your best bet is to try Ebay.

My sony handycam DCR-TRV340E is not charging at all, dont know if its to do with the battery or the AC power adaptor

First, check that the camera switch is in the off (charging) position.
If this is OK, Check the battery output connections for voltage: use a multimeter.
To check the charger, put a load resistor across the output terminals (about 1000 ti 2000 ohms) and again, using a multimeter, check there is a charging voltage. Alternatively, if the camera operates OK with the charger attached and switched on the charger is OK, AND, the problem is then in the charging circuit from camera to battery. If the battery checks OK as in the beginning, then you will need a Sony repair man who needs to know all the results from your testing above.

The ac power adaptor ac-v515 is dead.

I can't find the AC v515 adapter any where! But You can buy the next best thing. A battery charger one that will at least fit an NP-F730 battery. Go on to eBay and type Sony vc1000 and anything related will come up. These chargers can be used in your car and at home, what's more they are not expensive.

I bought my DCR-SR40 used (just camera) and I have the same problem. Downloaded the instruction manual from sony and discovered the only way to connect to a computer is through the
Sony Camcorder Docking Station

Display rolls on the handycam DCR-Sr300

Try resetting your Camcorder in the switch on mode.
If it does not help, switch the camcorder off, remove the battery, switch ON the cam for 15 sec and then switch it off and insert the battery again and try. This may help too.
Else the handycam needs a service.
