Question about Jet Plumbing

1 Answer

I can hear water surge back through the jet pump when it cycles off. Check valve is new, getting plenty of flow, cycles on and off properly. Everything is normal except the short burst of water back flowing through pump when it shuts off. Any ideas?

If it is taking longer than normal to build pressure at the pump and the check valve is good, the pump may be sucking some air, consequently the sound. This could be caused by problem with well and/or pump impeller. I would double check that check valve, it may be bad.

How does a home well water system work?

Deep well.
Pressure valve located on front of above-ground-storage-tank will turn pump on-off depending on amount of water pressure inside tank.
When water is consumed inside home, the pressure valve responds to the lower pressure and closes electrical contacts... sending electricity to water well pump located deep underground.
The pump turns on and lifts water through a pipe into the above ground storage tank.
When the tank is full of water, the pressure valve senses the higher pressure and turns off electricity going to pump
Pump shuts off.
There is a one-way check valve on the water line going down to pump, and this keeps water from flowing back down into well.
The above ground tank maintains water pressure for the house.
When pressure is reduced by taking a shower, the pressure valve turns pump on again, and cycle repeats.

Pump runs normally with no water but surges when filled with water

When there is a load on the motor and it is surging this is an indication of not enough water getting to the front of the pump.
Check the water flowing inside the tub going from the jet opposite the suction cover.
Sounds to me like you may be getting cavitation because the pump is pulling in too many air bubbles from the jet.
Close the air control and/or move the direction of the eyeball from pointing at the suction cover and see if that helps.

Sump pump keeps cycling on

Sump pumps are designed to automatically start when ground water reaches a predetermined point, typically by use of a float system. They are supposed to cycle on and off automatically. Some systems are not properly designed and back-flow can cause the system to pump the same water over and over. This can be cured by installing a back-flow prevention valve or replacing a defective backflow valve, and by ensuring that the outlet for the pump is not blocked or frozen.

Not enough flow and pressure to run sprinkler system

pressure in centrifugal pumps depends on the number of impellers in the pump housing, the clearance of the impellers to the housing and the power of the motor to drive the impeller/s
volume flow is also important as a pump without a high output will not produce pressure
check the jet size at the foot valve that is used to help lift water to the pump
It is a jet pump and will have a smaller line back to the foot valve for that purpose
next wil jet pumps if there is too much flow to the outlet , the pressure required to help lift the water to the pump is reduced and the volume is also reduced
you indicate 4 sprinkler heads per zone but how many zones are operating at one time
check the expected delivered volume for the new pump against delivered volume of the old pump as a starter to find the reason for the poor performance of the new pump
check also the rpms of each pump as that also has a bearing on volume produced

I have an LG front loader - model WD - 804 90TP and the machine is working but it gets down to 6 mins to run the spin cycle and then goes up to 14 mins and then back down again and carries on in that cycle...

You need to check the inlet valve for good flow of the water as a SLOW water pressure can increase the timing for rinse and spin.
Similarily the DRAIN pump/valve must be checked as if this is clogged then the drain flow will be LOW and the timing will extend for full drain. Remove and clean the drain pump and it can be the reason that the clothes are still wet.
Finally check on the controller for the proper timing of the cycle.

I replaced old pump w/ Flotec 1/2HP FP4012 and replaced old pressure tank w new 35gal tank. Pump primed but cycles on-off every minute constantly even w/ no water turned on. Goes to 50PSI, loses pressure...

The water and therefore the pressure has to be going somewhere. If you are sure that there are no leaks in the house or outside, then the water is going back into the well. There is a check valve either in the suction line of the pump between the top of the well and the pump or down in the well.
If this check valve fails, it allows water to go the wrong way and back to the well. The result is that you lose pressure.
Secondly, you have to be sure that there are no air leaks between the top of the well and the inlet to the check valve. Leaks in that piping will make repriming difficult.
Write back with more and I'll try to help more.

My polaris 3900 moves across the pool with the front wheel of the bottom, the wheel on the 1 wheel side and the back wheel are on the bottom.

Check your wheel RPM. If the pool cleaners RPM is over 32, reduce the water flow so that the cleaner makes proper contact with the pool's surface. Verify the back-up valve is cycling. Lift the valve out of
the water and watch the jet. It should come on and go off. You might also need to adjust your thrust jet if it is causing the cleaner to lean too far to one side.

Polaris 380 stand on nose while on will not move to wheels on ground what could be the problem

First, check to confirm that the blue restrictor disk is installed in the UWF to decrease water flow. It sounds like you are getting too much water pressure. You could also install the red restrictor disk to decrease water flow even more. If this does not work, verify the back-up valve is cycling. Hold the valve out of the water and watch the jet. It should come on and go off. Make sure that your thrust jets are working properly and are positioned correctly. Also, try removing the head float and shaking it. If there is water in the float, you will want to get a new one. Finally, check the hose floats to make sure they are
spaced evenly. One of these soultions should make your pool cleaner function properly. If you need additional help, please let me know.

380 unit floats to the top, doesn't move around pool

Check the following three things. One of these should correct the problem you are having with your automatic pool cleaner.

1. Confirm that the blue
restrictor disk is installed in
the UWF to decrease water
flow. Or, install the red
restrictor disk to decrease
water flow even more.

2. Check the wheel RPM. If
more than 32 RPM, unscrew
the pressure relief valve to
decrease water flow
to cleaner. Note: The
pressure relief valve should
only be adjusted when a
restrictor is installed.

3. Verify the back-up valve is
cycling. Hold the valve out of
the water and watch the jet.
It should come on and go off.

No water flow though pool pump

Check and see if all valves are turned in the appropriate positions. Sometimes homeowners forget to switch the valves from spa mode to pool mode or vice versa and wonder 'why isn't my pump pushing water?'. Another thing to consider is what type of pump you have. If you have an owners manual, check and see if you have a flooded suction pump or if it's self priming. You may need to dump water into the trap before seeing water flow through. You may also have faulty valves or check valves. Check your filter and make sure all positioning of valves are in proper place. If all else fails...call a pool professional. These small self performing tips are just something to consider to save some money in the long run in lieu of calling someone that may poke your eyes out with a service call and something as trivial as turning a valve. Hope this helps!
