Question about Washing Machines

After replacing the suspension springs and the balance spring the machine has a clanck noise as it swings back and forth during the washing mode. Machine is Kitchaneaid Model #KAWS850LQ0

The machine does not make any noise when it is in the spin mode. The bearign noise will be like a hum not a clanking noise. The noise only occurs while the machine is in the washing mode as the machine goes back and fourth and it only sounds on one of the directions not both. It sounds like the machine is hitting something as it moves.

Either one of the springs came off or not attached correctly or a loose or broken spring retainer

Hi,

Check for drum bearing failure if your washing machine is noisy on the spin cycle. You can take the belt off and spin the drum by hand, and if the drum rumbles, replace the bearings. Hope this will help you as you told you hear the noise during the spin cycle.

Please get back to us if you have further query else please accept the suggestion.

Where is my suspension spring on my washing machine

The suspension springs on your washing machine are used to either suspend the tub assembly from the cabinet or to stabilize the tub assembly to the washer base. They also absorb the vibration of the wash basket while the machine is in the spin cycle. Occasionally these springs will become damaged, stretched or detached which can cause excessive noise and vibration from your washer during the spin cycle. You will need to remove the top or front panel of the washing machine to gain access to the suspension springs. Inspect for stretching or damage and ensure that they are securely attached at both ends. Use caution when replacing the springs as they are under tension and always wear the proper protective clothing. We recommend that you replace all of the suspension springs if any are determined to be defective.

Machine goes out of balance & vibrates on spin cycle

Some models of top-load washers use tub dampening straps to cushion the movement of the tub during the spin cycle. There are four straps attached to the top of the tub and to each corner of the cabinet

Also There are four suspension rods that suspend the tub and allow the tub to free float. If the suspension rods are noisy, there will be a squeaking noise during wash. You can fix this by putting bearing (lithium base) grease in the cup that each rod rests in. If it continues to squeal replace all four rods the cups come with the rods, replace them as well.

If your washer has a loud banging noise during spin the balance weight may be loose. This weight is to counter act the weight of the motor so you will find the weight directly behind the motor. Sometimes simply tightening the bolts will fix your issue but if the bolts are stripped out get some bolts slightly longer than the original bolt to allow you to put a locking nut on the bottom side of the mounting plate. If the weight is broken replace it.

Lastly Washer vibration can be caused by a broken counter balance spring. Ur washer may be equipped with one or more counter balance springs which help to absorb the natural movement of the spinning tub. If a counter balance spring fails the tub might lean in one direction more than another and it will shake and cause vibration.

Drum suspension failure

The suspension spring of the drum has come off and this means that the drum is hanging off the center.
The drum is hung with spring and shock absorbers and if one side has come off it will be off balanced. The springs are hung from the corners of the BODY FRAME. Check this out, replace spring if the end had broken or also you can use a good plier to extend the spring head to be clipped.( if broken)

Need to balance washing machine drum

The drum should not need balancing, but the washer should be level in all directions. If the washer is level, but vibrates excessively during spin cycle, you may need to replace the springs. There is a set of suspension springs which act as shock absorbers. When these wear out the washer will bounce across the floor unless the clothes are 100% balanced in the washer.

Machine shakes wildly in spin mode, after replacing coupler.

Check the Vibration damper rods to be sure that...
1. They are there and mount is solid.
2. If they are broken in 1/2.
3. The plastic knuckle mounts are not missing/broken.
4. There is oil in the shock absorber/spring section of the rods.

Also - there are suspension springs on the bottom of the tub that could be broken and/or missing.

Replace/repair as necessary.

IF THIS IS A BRAND NEW INSTALLATION - be sure you have removed the basket shipping pins (4) that secure the tub during shipping.
