I am going to recommend that if you have any of the restore cds that you should use them. If you do not have them you can order them through the acer web site.

When you pop in the cd you need to make sure you boot to the cd then follow all of the instructions.

Factory reset

'Factor reset' implies a clean re-install which wipes EVERYTHING out on the HDD. this process is called RECOVERY == not to be confused with restore system.
It can be done using the recovery partition or a set of recovery discs.
If u didn't create them u can purchase from Acer. If the system is still functional u may be able to create them before u try the recovery.

Trying to get to the recovery system but I cant

If your system is capable of doing a Recovery via Hidden Partition on Hard Drive, you can access it by Pressing Alt + F10 and choose Recovery Option

Boot up and press F8 repeatedly. A black screen with some options should appear and you should see an option to restore it to factory mode. If Windows loads, you have done it wrong; try again.

First I want to give you the link for your laptops User Manual. Just click on it and it will take you there, ok?

OK.. from what I have read, it seems that you can only perform the recovery option if you have Allready produced the CD/DVD Recovery images through the ACER eRecover Program. You can find All the information on page 97 of the Manual with the Above Link. OK? If you have not made your Recovery Disks yet, Do Them Now & then follow the instructions to perform the Recovery after that.. ok?

I just did a recovery and my acer 4520 has lost

You can install a free recovery software like pcinspector or a paid software like System Mechanis Search and Recover. However it can not be guaranteed whether all your data can be retrieved successfully.

there are 2 ways for doing this

1) Fast and easy without backup disk just do this

Acer: When you turn on the laptop and see the Acer logo screen, hold the ALT key and press the F10 key (you need to do this before the Acer logo disappears).

Computer restor back to factory set

Pressing F10 on start up, is not for acer laptops, you need to have done a back up when you first got it running and use e-recovery to recover from your 'D' drive. see this explanation
