Question about Nikon N75 35mm SLR Camera

1 Answer

How do I install the focus screen in the N75? I purchased one used but the screen has obviosly been installed incorrectly since the viewfinder is blurred at infinity lens setting. I pulled the spring and three parts came out -- the screen, a gasket, and the spring. I note the screen must have a specific orientation since it has a tab in one corner. Where does the gasket go? Do I need a special tool?

If I remember correctly, all but the pro-level Nikon screens in general required/recommended a tech to replace the screen as they do require a special tool and special knowledge. The other's come supplied with the needed tool.

My E 620 shutter does not work when using viewfinder, but works when using screen

While using the viewfinder, does any warning come in the viewfinder?
Not sure, but if you are shooting in a different mode, it could be there is not enough light, or the camera can't focus.
Using the viewfinder the camera will use a different way to focus as when using the display.
Perhaps the autofocus, does not work correct. Looking through he viewfinder, wait till the AF confirmation mark lights up. (bottom left)
If it won't light up, something is wrong with the AF.

Hello my question is about what I think is a mirror issue on my n75 Nikon camera. When I look through the viewfinder the picture appears fuzzy. I looked closely at the lens and it does not look like it...

First off, with no lens attached, it will always be fuzzy, there is nothing to focus the light. Second, if you're looking at the mirror, you should be able to tell if it's dirty - if it is, glass cleaner and a soft rag are all that are required.

I'd suspect however that neither are your issue. Either your focusing screen is out of place or damaged, or your camera's diopter correction (if it has it) has been moved, Look for a small dial right next to your viewfinder with a +/- on it, and with the lens attached, and focused, turn the dial until everything is in focus. If your camera has this dial, it'll be usually on the right side of the viewfinder window.

If it does not have it you'll need to seek a repair shop to check your focusing screen since the mirror is 99% not going to be the cause of your problem. If there are no shops locally, google KEH Camera. It'll run you $35 for an estimate, waived if you decide to have any needed repairs done.

Problem with viewfinder - focus?! I've been using my Nikon d3000 for over a year now. Few days ago I tried to take a photo but when looking through the viewfinder, the photo wasn't focused. It was...

There's a diopter control near the viewfinder to adjust the viewfinder to your eye. Try adjusting that while peering into the viewfinder and try to get the focus brackets and the data at the bottom of the viewfinder into focus.

I have just started using my husband Pentax K100D camera. The viewfinder seems really dark. My camers is a Fujifilm S5700 that seems to have a lighted viewfinder. Is there any way to make the viewfinder...

The best way to lighten the viewfinder is to purchase a new focusing screen. There are many alternatives available and usually cost around $100. There are specialty screens to allow better manual focusing and others that brighten the viewfinder. These effects are usually achieved through coatings on the screen. They are relatively simple to install, however if you are uncomfortable doing it yourself, a local camera shop should be able to do it in a matter of minutes.
This screen will allow better focusing of manual lenses and will also brighten the viewfinder, when you purchase the "Brightness enhancement treatment" option at the bottom of the page. http://www.katzeyeoptics.com/item--Pentax-K100D-K110D-K200D-K-r-K-x-Focusing-Screen--prod_K100D.html
The linked product also fits your camera, and the brand is highly regarded as being good quality. There are other options available though, simply search on B&H Photo Video or Adorama Camera. They have many different options.

My canon xsi will come out "focused" but when i look through my view finder thing- it is not in focus. do you know what could be wrong?

The viewfinder image focusses onto the ground glass viewfinder screen; your viewfinder image will therefore be out of focus if the screen has moved up or down in relation to where it should be.

Check that the screen is seated properly by removing the lens and looking at the roof of mirror box in the camera body. Usually the screen will have dropped down very slightly and it's held in place by clips to the front and rear. The rear clip is fixed, the front one is a spring clip. Avoid using bare fingers when you manipulate the screen and do not use metal or hard plastic tools on it.

Will the Quanta 28-200 for the Nikon n75 work on the Nikon D5000?

Yes and no. I assume the lens is of more or less the same vintage as the N75? If so, the lens will fit onto the D5000. All of the camera's exposure and metering modes will work properly. However the lens lacks an interal focus motor and thus will not autofocus on the D5000. You can focus manually, and the green focus indicator in the viewfinder will continue to work.

Check the mirror. The image you see in the viewfinder comes through the lens, and is reflected by the mirror. If it's dirty, it will affect the image you see. When you take the picture, the mirror lifts up, the viewfinder image is interrupted, and the light from the lens goes to the image sensor. So...if the mirror is dirty, the picture will be fine but the viewfinder image will be dark or out of focus.

When take photos it looks in focus through the viewfinder, but the pictures come out slightly out of focus

I'm not sure what camera you are using. But I believe you are taking pictures like the old Kodak Instamatic which you just literally point and shoot. Even then people took blurred pictures. There are 2 reasons I can guess. First is you are pressing the shutter button too fast. When you press the shutter, it should be like squeezing the trigger of a gun. You SQUEEZE slowly. Not press the button and let go. After you hear the camera has done all the sound it wants to make that means you picture is being recorded. And hopefully it will be clear. If it still isn't then it means your camera take a little bit longer to focus on the subject. That's what happened to my wife. She thinks she can point and shoot and that's it. You need to camera a few seconds to focus. I know the Casio's have a little beeping sound that tells you it has focused and is ready to shoot. My Konica Minolta does the same but I see a box on the screen (I took the sound out). You need to listen for that tone that tells you you camera has focused on a spot and is ready to shoot. In order for the camera to do this you need to press the shutter only half way. When you hear the tone then slowly press all the way and don't move till all the clicks are done. That's usually 0.5-1.5seconds only. Hope this helps.
