The single lead goes to one leg, the split wired leg in the same spade goes to the other. They are usually yellow wires. As far as Hayward, Jacuzzi and Starite are concerned.

White is common, Black high speed, blue medium speed, red low speed; Brown wires are for the capacitor; The remaining 4 are for selecting the rotation.

These wire colors are the different speeds for the motor. You will have 1 wire going to the heat, 1 wire going to the cool, and 2 wires on the park terminals on the board if available. It will actually tell you the speeds of the colors provided on the motor itself i.e. BLACK=High and so on. Without knowing what model of unit you are working on, it's hard to say where exactly the wires will hook up, but the majority of the time you will have a electrical board inside the furnace and the terminals that I described will be marked.
