Run an optical cable from the back of the TV to the input on you audio/video receiver amplifier, then access the A/V receiver's menu and navigate to optical inputs, assign the one you connect the cable to in the previous step, to TV or Sat function (the input or source on your remote), verify it and you are done.
If no optical output on the back of the TV, then use the RCA audio output, and just connect it to any audio input on the back of the A/V receiver, and use that specific input as a source when listening to the surround.

Although we have no additional speakers hooked up to the TV, I'm often hearing music tracks during commercials as significantly louder than dialog/voice overs. Any advice?

Hi rinkejus.

This link is the user manual for your tv. If you already have it, don't bother downloading it. Follow page 75 and 76, which describe the audio settings. Play with the equalizer until, hopefully, you find a setting you are happy with. You can also play with the sound effect, as music tends to "broaden" more readily than speech. Also, if you are set on surround, most of the speech will be in the centre channel - which isn't there because it requires an external speaker.

From what you describe, you don't have a fault of any kind, just the features of your tv are having an undesired effect. Good luck. Please vote 4 hands if this was useful.

I have an Emerson 42in flat screen lcd. It has 3 hdmi ports, a pc port, etc. What I need is an audio out port and the only audio out port is the Digital audio out. My ps3 and xbox 360 are hooked up through...

If you have a home theatre system, most receivers have a digital audio input that you can use and hook that up to the digital audtio output on your TV. I have the same TV, and this is how I am doing it.

The other option is to get a new receiver that supports HDMI, and feed you HDMI into the receiver and then use the HDMI out from the receiver to the TV.

These are about the only options you have.

I tried to hook up my ps3 to my hannspree monitor

did you hook the dvd player or xbox 360 to see it if still works after ps3? if still no result, it's most likely that the motherboard in the lcd shorted out.

No surround sound on normal tv just dvds

Do you have a cable box or satellite box? If you do, try hooking up your TV sound through the box. Look for audio out in the back of box (white/red RCA Jacks). Hook RCA cable from cable box to surround amp. Even if the audio out jacks are being used already, you can use Y connectors to hook up the surround amp to the box.
Hope this works for you!

for your dvd player you just go from audio out on the back of the dvd played to the audio in on the surround sound. and you would do the same for the tv if it has an audio out. your surround sound shoud have more than 1 audio in. and then when you swicht from tv to dvd you might have change the channle, setting, source, or what ever it might be called on the surround sound. and if your tv does not have a audio out contact me at [email protected] and i try to help you. hope that works :)

Hooking up new tv to surround sound

I recently purchased a vizio 37" LCD tv, I have tried everything in hooking up my Sony DVD surround system to the TV. However, I found no audio output on this TV. Could you tell me if there is a way to hook the tv directly up to the surround without an output?
Is there something else I need to buy?
