Hi - I have a Canon PIXMA MP180 I am trying to print but the paper is getting constantly jammed. It's like the thing that pulls the paper in is pulling it in squint?

I think it is about 4 years old but hardly used?!

I have tried everything you suggested but it is still continuing to jam. If I need to take it somewhere I will - where??

    Thanks so much!

Hello, You might not completely remove all the remain when paper jammed the first time inside the machine. You might want to check for it and turn off the machine off, turn it back on to see if it helps. If not: Pull all of paper out of tray, adjust the paper guides one the sides of the tray. If the paper guides improperly the papers will feed into the printer at an angle, which can cause the paper jams. Clean the paper (using fan) to remove any paper dust and dirt, remove wrinkled or torn paper the reload the tray. Clean the paper tray to remove any dust or debris. If the paper tray is dirty, it will cause the problems with the paper feed. Replace the paper in the tray with new purchased paper to test. If you try all above steps and it still james, then it might be time to bring it in for service, roller and sensor might need to be replaced. BTW: How old is your printer? Let me know. Thanks

    Hi Caroline

Since your printer is 4 years old, I guess it is already out of warranty, unless you have purchased extended warranty, if you do, click on the link below for fill out the service request with canon, and you might have to ship to canon for repair. The link also gives you phone number to call in case you have question and find the local service center in your area. I can't help because I don't know your location.

If yours indeed is out of warranty, and didn't purchase the extended warranty, and you bring it to you local service for repair, cost of labor, sensor, or roller may exceeded the cost of brand new printer (same model), You might consider buying the new one instead. Your model costs $59.00 and the newer model only costs $51.00, so you might want to buy a newer one. Click on below link for more information. Good luck to you. If I can further help, please let me know.

Canon pixma mp180 - not pulling paper in

Hello there
You may not see a paper jam.

This may work for you, it has worked for many here I given this advice so gave it a try it could work for you. Generally when this happens, something has fallen into the printer, or a piece of paper has been jammed in there.

First step, remove the ink cartridge, and turn the printer upside down and gently shake it, see if anything comes out.

If nothing goes, or you can't hear anything rattling around, get a piece of cardstock paper (60lb or heavier) and gently push this through the printer, to see if it will help push out what might be stuck in there.

And gave the rode that the ink slides on a good clean and maybe a bit oil on cloth and wipe the rod with it.

Please come back and just gave a vote, it will gave me some satisfaction to know am helping some one so I will keep on helping.

Says there is a paper jam everytime i try to print

Check within your paper feeder rollers there might be something stuck inside it like paper clips, coins or anything small and solid. If you can find way to open the printer without braking it, that would be nice.

Hope this helps.

Would need to see it in the shop, there are too many things to check, missing or bent rollers, springs out of place, ink build-up on rollers, paper scraps, dirty encoders. Too many to try and help here...

Paper pulls to the right, jams, won't print, tried different paper still won't print

Sounds like the feed rollers need cleaning.
Clean the feed rollers, lint free cloth, bottled water.
wait for them to properly dry

Revolve the feed roller bar as you clean them, to clean the feed rollers all the way round, remove all particles from them.

Check you ADF grips are set correctly, if not you will get mis-fed sheets. check the tray is sat properly too or mis-feeds.

Check paper size is correct in print properties too.
Should be good then
Try print.

Canon mp180 paper jammed

I finally fixed the problem by running two sheets of heavy card stock through at the same time. With the machine off, I positioned the two sheets in the feeder so that they would be pulled in when the printer was turned on. When I turned on the printer, it drew the two sheets through and I guess this reset the paper sensor. I previously found that only one sheet at a time did't work.
I found this solution posted by JsamJr answering another question but it worked for me. pushing the card in and then removing it and pressing ok worked

Do not continue this way, you are sure to ruin your paper sensor or the like. Most probably you have a paper jam inside near the carriage or roller. Open at front, check inside for paper jam.
