If you can gain better acces by removing filter then do so. If you cant access it then you can try using a rubber plug. Most part stores sell a rubber expanding plug that installs easily by removing old freeze plug and simply putting new one in hole and tightening the nut in the middle

What releaf valve is under the oil filter chev 4.3 v6 4x4 s10

That is the filter bypass valve. If the oil filter plugs up then oil pressure opens the valve to let unfiltered oil back into the engine so it won't destroy the engine.

How do i remove the altenator from a 1992 saab 900?...i can't get the bottom bolt out!...thanks...sean

Unfortunately this is a very tight space to work in.There are a couple of bolts holding the bracket against the engine block. You need to remove those bolts and then swivel the alternator with the bracket still attached to it.You will then have room to remove the bottom bolt. You need to remove the oil filter and oil filter housing first.PLEASE REMEMBER TO REINSTALL THE OIL FILTER AND HOUSING BEFORE STARTING THE ENGINE.

Oil leaking where oil filter attaches, but not from filter. Leak seems to be from the part where the filter attaches. this is 1992 chev 4x4 k1500 5.7.

Have a 1999 Z71 chev truck with 5.3 L engine that has fluctuating oil pressure. Started with low oil pressure after start with engine clak that disappeared after it warmed up. Changed oil and found sludge...

In some cases where the oil is not changed properly, the oil pump screen maybe plugging or your oil filter is defective. Fram is a good filter. If there is no problem found, replace the pressure sensor.

Change Oil Filter

On the bottom of the engine towards the back of the engine block, on most chev's it is on the drivers side.
