Question about H.D. Hudson 2g Yard N Garden Sprayer

1 Answer

I'm not sure how to fill the thing. It's a 2 gallon sprayer, yet when I open the top (i.e. remove the pump mechanism), there is a chamber, but it only holds about 1/4 gallon. How do I get the other 1 and 3/4 gallons into it? Do I use the pump somehow? Thanks, Ron

It sounds like you unscrewed the pump assembly. that chamber is actually part of the pump and sometimes they do separate. try to remove what you called the chamber. if that is part of the pump then it has to come out before you can put the pump assembly back together.

How do you refill?

Remove all pressure by keeping the hose open until no pressure is left. place pump handle down toward tank. Turn count counter clock wise to unscrew. Take assembly out of tank then fill tank. Reinstall in reverse order.

I've just been given a roundup 2 gallon sprayer. It seems to me the top should be removable to add the liquids but I can't figure it out and don't want to experiment to the point that I damage...

Howdy MMis971,The sprayer just needs to be pushed down by the handle as you turn counter clockwise. This can be made a little easier by unscrewing the nozzle where it connects to the tank to release any pressure built up by pumping.

My sprayer is new, but does not keep the pressure, any idea's? It's a 2 gal, pump up type sprayer.

Check under the lid/cover for a rubber gasket. This may have gotten unseated when putting the sprayer top on. It must form a tight seal around the lip of the sprayer top in order to keep the pressure. Alternative: Put water in the sprayer leaving some air on top to build pressure. Put a few drops of dish soap inside and gently stir. Put the cover on, and tilt the sprayer to coat all areas at the top. Start pumping and see where the bubbles come out---there is your leak. If it is near where the sprayer hose enters, and it is a permanent mount, you may have a bad seal. If the sprayer hose unscrews, you may need a new rubber washer inside. If bubbles come out of the wand, or other plastic seams, you may have a crack in the plastic. Depending on the location, you could epoxy over the crack to seal it permanently. Good luck.

I am not getting pressure in the sprayer. Any suggestions?

Generally, the problem is either a leak or a bad pump. If you listen carefully and you hear air escaping try making sure the top is on tight (don't go nuts because you will never get it off again) Also many tanks have a gasket or O-ring under the lid. This is often lost or gets out of place, and then crushed by the lip. There is also a gasket or stopper thing at the bottom of the pump cylinder, sometimes this gets loose or gets a piece of stuff in it. It also could be the pump piston itself. HERE is the manual with a section on troubleshooting.
Be careful if you have used hazardous chemicals in it before.
Hope this helps, If it does please rate it.

My gilmour wheelpump sprayer just quit spraying. It appears to not be building up pressure. I have cleaned out the valve and screen on the bottom, removed and rinsed out the hollow oval 'ball'...

Your pump cam follower may be broken, such that the pump is just not working. It happened on mine. You don't need to buy any parts. If you open it up and find that the cam follower plastic tabs are broken, Gilmore provides a second set of 2 cam followers on the other side of the cam follower assembly. Just remove some screws, reverse the assembly, and you are back in business.

What is the screw or nob in the middle of the intex 530 gallon pump lid for.

That is an air release valve screw. After you fill you rpool with water - open this screw until water comes out then tighten until sealed firmly. Turn pump on.

This allows the air to be released from the pump chamber "priming" the water flow.

How to remove lid

The only way that I know of is to hold the bottom part (jug) securely and turn the pump handle. If you put some pressure on there and just hold firmly it should eventually start to unscrew. You need to push the pump handle down as far as it goes and it will lock into some "ears" on the pump assy so it will turn the pump assy as well.

I have a hudson classic sprayer and have no instructions.

The pumping mechanism should unscrew from the plastic bottle. Push the handle all the way down and try to unscrew the pump while holding the bottle steady.

Sprayer Question

Hose end sprayers are the simplest and least expensive of the category. A sprayer jar is attached to a regular garden sprayer. Concentrated material is added to the sprayer jar. An adjustment on the jar determines the amount delivered. The force of the water through the hose pulls the material up from the jar and mixes and dilutes it with the water. A built-in anti-siphon device prevents unused material from being pulled back into your water supply. Compression or tank sprayers are the most common type of spray equipment. Concentrated material is added to the tank. Water is then added to a marked fill line. The remaining air is pressurized by pumping the handle a designated number of times. A control lever on the wand controls the spray pattern and amount. Compression sprayers provide a precise, on target, non-drift spray good for soil and lawn pests. Adjust the sprayer for a coarse, drenching spray, a concentrated stream or a fine mist. Tank capacities range from 1 quart to over 3 gallon for handheld models. Homeowner type backpack sprayers hold up 4 gallons. The tanks may be made from polyethylene plastic, galvanized steel or stainless steel. In addition to treatments for pests and diseases, compression sprayers are designed for applying cleaning solutions for decks and siding. Backpack sprayers are operated in the same manner as the handheld compression sprayer. The over-the-shoulder configuration makes it easier to carry the heavier load of material. Some backpack models also use a lever-style pump to maintain pressure without removing the unit form your back. Powered sprayers rely on a gasoline engine for spray power. Great for larger yards or gardens due to portability and capacity (12 gallons). Dusters are a slightly different breed. Dry powders (mostly for blooming plants such as roses) are added to a canister and applied by manually pumping. NOTE: Compression sprayers deliver liquid under pressure. Compression sprayers are powerful and efficient tools. This fact also makes them potentially dangerous. Always read the manufacturer's instructions and safety precautions carefully.
