The beeps are post during post the very first work is done by the ram,all the memory in the ram is first transferred to the hard disk, and remains active untill turned off.

make sure that your RAM is securely seated

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect your hard drive

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your ((motherboard to your hard drive)) make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty

a computer needs its connections to continue its cycle and to have and end to function
obvisously the beeps are windows searching for some hardware it could be RAM cd/dvd hard drive or motherboard all of these must have secure connections for the computer to work
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure make sure the connections and are not faulty even something as small as a faulty electrical extensions or fan lead can cause this problem or just replace them they could be faulty a computer needs its connections to continue its cycle and have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error
hope this helps

Check if you can use SATA else you'll have to look for IDE
Actually to insert a SATA drive is easier then replace a light-bulc.
Just remove cables, unscrew from "drawer" insrtn new drive, scress, replace cables.
If it's a system disk, the difficulty is resintall your system. After you've replaced Hard disk, formulate your question with more doubts

Beep hp pocket media drive

See if it's under warranty, the controller that runs it is bad, if not under warranty, buy a new one or buy a External HDD/SSD enclosure, they are cheep, just make sure it's for the size drive you have and same serial port, ( IDE,SATA 2, Sata 3 ) you can get them to plug into your PC as USB, EX Sata, Esata.

Asus pro31f series duoT2350 notebook does not boot up. Potential motherboard failure? How do I recover data?

A) Remove ALL power. Remove the AC adapter (Charger), and Battery.
B) Remove the Harddrive;

According to specifications it is a 100GB SATA harddrive.

Harddrives are measured across their width.
A laptop harddrive is 2.5 Inches across in width. (2 -1/2 inches)
Desktop harddrives are 3.5

Install the Asus Pro 31F harddrive in a 2.5 SATA external enclosure.
The external enclosure has a USB cable. Turns your laptop harddrive into an external harddrive.

One example of a 2.5 SATA external enclosure,

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3195233&CatId=2783

C) I believe what may be going on, is you have a failed Power MOSFET, or Power MOSFET's.

?O_O?

MOSFET,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MOSFET

Power MOSFET,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_MOSFET

D2PAK surface mount,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D2PAK

(Requires using a clip heatsink on each lead when soldering.
After all, this uses Transistors )

Motherboard problem, yes I believe you may be correct.
Repairable? Yes.
Find a tech that can perform this? Isn't easy.
Most just want to replace motherboards.
Why? More $$$$$$$$.

(Ahem, I'm telling you about it, so I am not one of these noobs! Lol!)

My external hd (fantom titanium) doesn't regularly open on my mac suddenly

fouad,

Inside the case of that Fantom is a regular harddrive.

Also inside that outer case is a small circuit board, that either the harddrive plugs directly into it; or there is an interface block the harddrive plugs into, and there are wires from it, that connect to the small circuit board.

(The USB cable is connected to the small circuit board)

It is this small circuit board that usually goes bad.

My suggestion is to remove the harddrive inside, purchase an economical external enclosure, and install the harddrive in it.
Have your harddrive back, and be able to use it as an external harddrive again also.

The Harddrive Inside:
Harddrives are measured by their Width.
A laptop harddrive is 2.5 inches across in width. (2-1/2 inches)
A desktop harddrive is 3.5 inches.

The Fantom Titanium II 500GB's harddrive inside, is 3.5 inches,

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822204034

Details > Physical Spec > Form Factor > 3.5

What I can't tell you is whether it is an IDE (PATA) harddrive, or a SATA harddrive.
However this external enclosure for 3.5 inch harddrives, is for both IDE, (PATA), and SATA harddrives,

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817388014R

[ You can also look at the label on the harddrive, and look up it's model number online, to see if it is IDE or SATA. Just type the model number in your search bar ]

Just want to include information on IDE (PATA), and SATA, in case you are interested,

IDE: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parallel_ATA

SATA: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_ATA

I have a acer aspire t180 desktop with a 250gb hitachi scsi (ide) hd. I would like to know which hard drives are compatible so that I can exchange it. thanks

It's a SATA harddrive, not SCSI.

Serial ATA

Acer Support > Aspire T180 > Specifications >

http://www.acersupport.com/acerpanam/desktop/0000/Acer/AspireT180/AspireT180sp2.shtml

Will use up to a 400GB SATA harddrive according to Acer.

IDE stands for Integrated Drive Electronics.
Another name is PATA.
Parallel ATA
Used to distinguish between IDE and SATA.

1) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Integrated_Drive_Electronics

2) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_ATA

3) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SCSI

Exchange it?
Your harddrive has the Operating System on it.
A new harddrive will not have an O/S on it.
(Windows XP is an example of an O/S)

It would be much easier to install the harddrive you wish into an external enclosure, and plug the external enclosure's USB cable into your T180.

One example of a desktop size harddrive SATA external enclosure,
(3.5 inch SATA external enclosure.
3 and 1/2 inches across in width, for a desktop harddrive.
Laptop HD's are 2.5)

My hp pavilion a 735w with onboard sata wont recognize a sata hard drive

No such thing as onboard sata ? Remove the new drive and if it is a single drive -set the selector as MASTER - if there is another drive set it to CS or Cable Select.

If you have a harddrive installed and are ADDING the SATA drive - as a second Drive - put it in start the pc and then go to MY COMPUTER and look for E- R or F drive. It will be there as a drive where you can or save things to it.

let me know how this works - please vote me 4 for trying to help you.

Is my harddrive for an mt6705 gateway SATA?

Your Component Replacement Manual shows how to replace the Hard Drive for this computer. In it, they show an "IDE" (PATA) drive. You can double check this by opening the HD compartment, and examining the HD. SATA HD have no pins.

Hope this helps you.

Good Luck

Ok if you replaced the RAM and HD may i suggest removing the HD and turning it on, If it still does the same thing then try my test below. If it seems to correct the problem then either your HD is broken (Even new ones can be bad) or you installed it wrong, Try reviewing the HD's jumper settings or if its SATA it can be a power problem

If you have 2 sticks of ram, Remove both and seat in just 1 stick, Remove any CDRom drives and HD's, Plug in the screen and turn it on.

If its still not working then you may have to test it with different ram, How ever its a 50/50 chance that your motherboard has gone **** up.

One thing ... Does it beep when you turn it on?
