Question about Garden

PB switch 681064-01 has 4 spade terminals. I need to know which terminal do the 1 black, 1 white and 2 red wires connect onto the switch. Black and Decker Lawn Hog, model MM675, corded electric.

Their should be 1 Red, 1 White and 2 Black?

Holding the switch part with the black pushbutton switch to the right. The two wires on the top are Red then White. The two wires on the bottom are both black.

Wiring a Westinghouse 3way speed switch.


Three way Switch installation; One cable has two wires plus a bare copper grounding wire, The other cable has three wires plus a ground.
1. Connect the black wire from the two-wire cable to the dark common screw terminal. 2. Connect the red and black wires from the three-wire cable to the traveler screw terminals. 3. Join the white neutral wires together with a wire connector and pigtail the grounding wires to the grounded metal box. 4. When the switch lies at the end of the circuit one cable enters the box. 5. The cable has a black wire, red wire, and white wire, plus a bare copper grounding wire. 6. Connect the black wire to the dark common screw terminal. 7. How to wire Intermatic T103 and T104 timers


These instructions are for USA residential wiring only.

VERY IMPORTANT: Understand that in US residential wiring the WHITE wire is _NOT_ ALWAYS_ the neutral wire. Additionally, prior to 1999 the National Electric Code (NEC) did not require that these white wires be re-identified with black tape or similar means when used for purposes other than neutral. The white wire is sometimes used as a hot, especially when wiring Intermatic T103 and T104 timers.

Also understand that the WHITE neutral wire and the bare (or green) equipment grounding wire are connected together ONLY at the main electric power panel and must _never_be connected together _again_. Once those two wires leave the main electric panel, the WHITE neutral wire must _always_ remain insulated from the bare or green equipment grounding wire. This is very important for safety considerations.

If your wiring is very old and does not have a bare equipment grounding conductor, you _must_ protect the circuit with a GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interupter). GFCI wiring is not difficult but is beyond the scope of this post.

DETERMINE WHAT CABLE YOU HAVE:
Usually one will find one of the three following scenarios for the incoming supply cables when wiring a T103 or T104 Intermatic timer:

1...A 120 volt cable with 3 wires: black, white, and bare. The black is LINE (hot), white is neutral and bare is equipment grounding. Black to white is 120 volts. This scenario can be used with the T103, but not the T104.

2...A 240 volt cable with 3 wires: black, white, and bare. The black is LINE(hot), the WHITE is LINE (HOT), and the bare is equipment grounding. Black to white is 240 volts. This scenario is used with the T104 ONLY.

3...A 120/240 volt cable with 4 wires: Black, red, white, and bare. The black and red are (LINE) hot, white is neutral and bare is equipment grounding. Black to red is 240 volts. Black to white is 120 volts. Red to white is 120 volts. This scenario can be used with either the T103 or the T104.

The only difference between the T103 and the T104 is the timer motor voltage rating. The T103 uses a 120 volt timer motor and the T104 uses a 240 volt timer motor. The T103 timer motor is connected to terminal "A" and terminal #3 during manufacturing. The T104 timer motor is connected to terminal #1 and terminal 3# at the factory.

Also, when connecting the bare or green wires to the "GR" terminal, it is best to wirenut the wires together with a pigtail, then connect the pigtail to the "GR" (GRound) terminal, WHICH IS THE GREEN SCREW ON THE LOWER PART OF THE CASE.

WIRING THE T103 USING AN INCOMING 120/240 VOLT CABLE WITH 4 WIRES (scenario #3):

Incoming (LINE) wires from 240 volt circuit breaker:
Connect the black (LINE)(hot) wire to terminal #1. Connect the red (LINE) (hot) wire to terminal #3. Connect the white (neutral in this case) wire to terminal "A".
Connect the bare equipment grounding wire to the "GR" terminal, which is the green screw on the case.

Outgoing wires to 240 volt load:
Connect one (hot) wire to terminal #2 and the other (hot) wire to terminal #4. The bare or green wire goes to the "GR" terminal.

WIRING THE T103 USING AN INCOMING _120_ VOLT CABLE WITH 3 WIRES (scenario #1):

Incoming wires from 120 volt breaker or source:

Outgoing wires to 120 volt load(s):

I have a new GE 15306 Mechanical Time Switch and need to wire it up to 2 white and 2 black wires that I had on my old timer. I need more information on the wiring than is on the diagram on cover of metal...

GE 15306 is a version of 120Volt Tork 1101 indoor-outdoor timer sold at Home Depot under GE name and number.

You have 2 cables.
One cable comes from Breaker box, and other cable goes to Load (light, fan, motor, pump).
Each cable has black and white wire.
1) Cable from breaker box: Black wire H Hot connects to to terminal L.
Notice there is a metal bridge that connects terminal L and terminal 1.
If metal bridge is missing, use a jumper wire and connect L and 1.
White N Neutral from breaker box connects to terminal X.
2) Cable going to Load:
Black connects to terminal 2
White connects to terminal X.
So both white wires are on terminal X.

The Casablanca 88U33M Scandia Ceiling Fan only has three wires, a black, a white, and a green wire (ground). How do you wire the fan and light on seperate switches?


If you want to control both the light and the fan using 3-ways, then just wire 2 sets of the 3-way circuits. For this you need two sets of 3-wire between the switches, and one 3-wire cable from the switch location to the fan/light box.

At box #1 (a 2 gang box), you will run a power cable (marked cable #1) into it. From there you run 2 sets of 3-wire cables (identified as cable #2 & cable #3) to the other switch location, which will also be a 2-gang box (box #2).

Also from box #1, you will run a 3-wire cable (cable #4) to the fan/light box (box #3).

Hook up is as follows:

Box #3: connect black of cable #4 to black (fan), connect red of cable #4 to blue (light), connect white of cable #4 to white (fan/light), and connect the bare to the green.

Box #2: Connect white of cable #2 to identified terminal on 1st 3-way switch (#3). Connect red & black of cable #2 to the remaining screws of 3-way switch #3. Next connect white of cable #3 to identified terminal of 2nd 3-way switch (#4), and connect black and red to remaining screws. Tie all grounds together and terminate to both switches.

At box #1, connect black from cable #1 to whites in cables #2 & #3, using a wirenut. Connect white in cable #1 to white in cable #4. Connect black and red in cable #2 to 3rd 3-way switch (#1) and connect black and red in cable #3 to 4th 3-way switch (#2). Connect black in cable #4 to identified terminal of 3-way switch #1, and connect red in cable #4 to identified terminal on 3-way switch #2. Tie all grounds together and to the switches

How to wire a 1104 series time switch

Tork 1103 can control 120V or 240V Loads (fan light motor)
It can control 1 or 2 different Loads
Tork 1103 has 5 screw terminals
L 1 Unmarked X 2

The Tork 1103 has a 120V clock motor that consumes 3 Watts and costs $3.50 per year to operate.
1) You have to have a white Neutral wire from breaker box connected to Unmarked terminal no matter if you are controlling 120V or 240V Load
2) You have to have a black Hot wire from breaker connected to terminal L no matter what load

If you have 1 Load 120V:
Terminal L black hot from breaker
Terminal 1 no wire
Unmarked terminal white neutral from breaker
Terminal X black wire going to Load
Terminal 2 no wire
White wire going to Load connects to Unmarked terminal
So 2 white wires are on terminal 2

If you have 2 Loads 120V (Load1 Load2)
Terminal L black hot from breaker
Terminal 1 jumper your black hot from Terminal 1
Unmarked terminal white neutral from breaker
Terminal X black wire going to Load1
White wire going to Load1 connects to Unmarked terminal
Terminal 2 black wire going to Load2
White wire from Load2 connects to Unmarked terminal
So 3 white wires are on terminal 2

If you have 2 Loads 240V
Terminal L black hot from breaker
Terminal 1 jumper your black hot from Terminal 1
Unmarked terminal white neutral from breaker (no other wires connect to this terminal)
Terminal X black wire going to Load1
White wire going to Load1 connects back to 240V breaker
Terminal 2 black wire going to Load2
White wire from Load2 connects back to 240V breaker

Breaker keeps tripping when turning on pump.


The red and black wires if ran correctly are the load lines(power). The white is neutral or ground. If its a 1/2 to1-1/2 hp motor connect the red and black wires to terminals #1 and #4. If its 2 hp use #1 and #4. If its 3 hp use #2 and #4. Connect the white wire to the green colored screw. A grounding conductor should always be connected under the green grounding screw, which is located within the terminal compartment of the motor. You can check the breaker for the wire colors, one should be black and the other red. The white wire should be terminated to the neutral/ground bar in the can.

I need to know the order to connect the wires


The solid white wire from each sensor goes to terminal #2 and the white wires with the black tracer go to terminal #3.

If the wall control is also connected you should end up with one white/red wire on terminal #1, 3 white wires on terminal #2 and 2 white/black wires on terminal #3.

Andrea,
There are two issues here. The red and green wires are not standard, so rather than assume, you'll have to confirm where they go on the ceiling fixture by dropping that fixture enough to examine it. The other issue is that you have apparently bought two four-way switches - they will work, but you may have to make a change after you initially wire it up.

i'll describe how to wire this, but before you wire it this way you MUST confirm my assumption that at the ceiling fixture the red wire is connected to a black flexible wire (either for the fan or for the light) and the green wire is connected to a white flexible wire (either for the fan or for the light).

Now back to the switch box. .
.
You need to determine which of the black/white/ground wire sets is coming from the breaker. If this isn't obvious visually, you can check this by temporarily wiring a light to one set, have somebody turn the breaker on then off. If it lights, you got it. If it doesn't light, its the other one, but repeat the test on the other one to be sure.

Now the switches. You will only use two terminals on each switch. On each switch you will use one of the top terminals and one of the bottom terminals. Use the two terminals on the same side of the switches. (Later, if you find that your switch operates upside-down, where up is off and down is on - then you can swap a wire so that you are using two terminals that are on opposite corners of the switch.)

Connect the black wire coming from the breaker to switch 1. You also need to add a jumper wire from that terminal to the corresponding terminal on switch 2.

Connect the other black wire to the other terminal on switch 1. Connect the red wire to the other terminal on switch 2. Connect the two bare ground wires to the grounding lugs on the two switches.

The other three wires are white, white, and green. These are the neutrals and should all be connected together.

T103 clock not working


Please read all of this post. You may burn up the 120 volt T103 timer motor is you are not careful.

The statement: "I have 120v board with 120 constant and 240 timed" is not very clear to me as to what you mean.

In US residential wiring, the white wire is not always the "neutral;" The white wire is sometimes used for 240 volt circuits.

We cannot tell you how to wire your timer unless we know _exactly_ what you have.

If your incoming supply cable (from the breaker box) has 3 wires (black, white, and bare), there are two scenarios:

1...If the voltage from black (hot) to white (ALSO hot in this case) is 240 volts, and you have only 3 wires (black, white, and bare), then the T103 is the _wrong_ timer if you are trying to control a 240 volt load. You should use a T104 timer.

The T104 uses a 240 volt timer motor and the T103 uses a 120 volt timer motor.

2...If the voltage between black and white is 120 volts, then you will only be able to control 120 volt loads; then the incoming black supply wire is connected to terminal 3 and the white (neutral) wire is connected to the "A" terminal. The bare equipment grounding wire is then connected to the "GR" terminal.

To show the difference, if you are trying to control a 240 volt load, to use a T103 and wire it _correctly_, you would need to have a incoming supply cable with a total of 4 wires (black, red, white (neutral), and bare) Black to red would be 240 volts. Black to white would be 120 volts. Red to white would be 120 volts.
The connections would be as follows:
White (neutral in this case) to the "A" terminal
Black to terminal 1
Red to terminal 3
The 240 volt load would then connect to terminals 2 and 4
Both the bare equipment grounding wires are connected to the "GR" terminal.

Since you did not mention a red wire, I can only ASSUME that this is not the case.

Sorry, we can't tell you how to wire this timer based upon assumptions.

Wire a 4 prong l dryer box


First with any electrical repair, safety must be observed. Be sure the circuit is turned off at the breaker panel (check wires with a voltage tester)
quality gloves and eye protection should be worn.

Typically the terminals or screws in the plug will be color coded (2 brass, 1 aluminum & 1 green)

The black and the red are both hots and can be connected to either of the brass terminals.

Red - hot = Brass terminal
Black - hot = other Brass terminal
White - neutral = aluminum terminal
bare copper - ground = green terminal
