The screen on my phone went black. I cant read any text messages. I can receive calls though.

Hello,

there is nothing wrong with your screen, the problem is from the flex that connects your screen to the phone's main board. This flex must have worn out that's why your screen is not displaying any picture.

The problem is common with flip and slide phones. The flex gets worn out as a result of constant opening and close of the flip or slide phone.

I would urge you to replace the flex and I am assuring you that your screen will display picture again. You might also be lucky to find out that the flex is not well fix, that is, it may have loosed contact.

If you cannot change the flex yourself, maybe you should take the phone to a local repairer within your vicinity, so that the flex can be fixed/replaced.

Good luck.

I have a Motorola Razr V3. Very recently the exterior and main screen went black. The phone itself still works (I can still call people and receive calls) but I can not see anything on the screens. Do you...

Hello,

The reason your phone interior and exterior screen went black is because there is a problem with the flex of the phone.

The flex is the mechanism like a ribbon that connects the screen to the panel of the phone.

All you have to do is to replace the flex of the phone.

To replace it on your own, the process to do this are as following;
  1. Get the appropriate screwdriver (Torx 5 screwdriver).
  2. Remove the four rubber stoppers surrounding the screen to reveal four screws. Remove these screws.
  3. You can now remove the front cover. To do this, use a credit card to lever the cover up. The cover clips on and the levering motion will unclip it. Start at the top, then unclip the cover at the bottom, then both sides.
  4. Now detach the camera from the phone. Simply pull the ribbon away from the phone to release it.
  5. Now unplug the other ribbon. The ribbon attaches like a plug and socket. Simply lift it up to unplug it.
  6. The ribbon you just unplugged is the flex of the phone, so you have to unscrew the lower part of the phone to remove it completely.
  7. To open the lower part, you have to open the back cover and remove the battery,
  8. Unscrew the screws you see, than split it open with a credit card or the tip of your finger, apply a little force to open it.
  9. Then unscrew the board, you will see where the other end of the ribbon is connected on the board, then you can remove it and fix a new one.
  10. Reverse the process to reassemble the phone together.
Take care

My phone was just working fine n when i flipped it

Hi the most likely cause of your problem is going to be with the ribbon the sends the data from the circuit board to the screen, the problem you have is this isnt a part you can change yourself so would need sending off to have fixed.

the reason this part fails is down to the fact that its a flat piece of ribbon but when you close the phone the ribbon then bends in the middle so every time you open and close the phone this ribbon is bending as its made to do, how ever over time this bending causes the little copper wires in the ribbon to fail giving you the white screen you are getting.

So im sorry i cant give you an easy fix for your problem because its going to be a case of getting new parts and having them fitted, doing this would then get your phone working again, the only problem is you need to see if the cost of repair would cost more then the phone is worth. If you really want to keep the phone then shop around for the cheapest price you can get, its not a hard job to do and would only take 10min or so to replace the part how ever you cant do this work yourself as you need specialist tools to remove the casing and the ribbon.

Faceplate stays half opened, half closed will on not turn

I have the exact same problem. I called the Kenwood tech line and the tech reported that the ribbon cable is probably broke. It is the flex cable between the head unit and the rotating face plate. He said it's not an expensive fix but we would need to mail it to a service center if you're like me and not near one. I just replaced mine with a new unit. It was about time anyways.
