Question about Weber Summit 675 Stainless Steel Grill

1 Answer

We have the Summit 675 NG built in grill that is several years old. The igniters and crossover tubes have totally eroded. Can we just manually light the grill with no additional problems or do these need to be replaced?

Yes, you probably could for a while. But, the rust and corrosion is going to spread to the other burners eventually. So, it would be better to replace, what's needed. The parts are available directly from Weber Or from Appliance Factory Parts

The parts you need are not expensive and are fairly easy to install.

Hope this helped you. Please let me know and Happy Grilling!!

Can a weber summit s-440 built in grill that is natural gas be switched to a propane?

The easy answer is yes. Unfortuantely Weber no longer sells conversion kits, even to me, and I am an authorized Weber waranty service company. The only thing you can do is try and find a competant grill company in your area who has the expertise to buy the correct orifices and then the expertixe to drill them out to the correct size for LP gas. NG orifices are to large and will give you wild, uncontrollable flames if just hook the grill up to LP. LP orifices are smaller because LP gas burns hotter.

The crossover tube won't ignite past the first few inches from the front element. I have tapped it to clear it, cleared teh little side holes and even ran a wire through it (as a few of the...

If the cross over tube burner has rusted to the point of collapse is a pretty good indicator that it needs to be replaced. I personally, don't see in correlation between LP tank and the collapse of the crossover tube burner. A weak tank, as you called it, would not have any bearing to it.

Now, if you're match lighting the other burners and the flame height remains low, even when turned to high. That's a problem with the grills regulator, which can easily be solved.

Turn the Tank Valve OFF and disconnect the hose from the tank. Wait 5 minutes and reconnect the hose to the tank. Open the tank valve VERY, VERY Slowly (Slow motion, slow), until the valve is fully open. Light the burner farthest from the tank first and turn the burner to HIGH. If the flame height now, looks correct, light the remaining burners the same way. If all the flame heights have returned to normal, you solved that problem.

if it didn't solve the problem, you need to replace the grill's hose/regulator assembly and the crossover tube. The hose/regulator assembly can be purchased at any home center or hardware store, that sells gas grills and accessories. Tank the old one with you for comparison purposes. The Crossover Burner can be purchased from Weber or Factory Appliance Parts

Hope this aids you in troubleshooting and solving the problem. Please let me know. Thanks and Happy Grilling!!

Summit 670S Natural Gas - Takes several attempts to ignite each burner. Even after holding each knob in the on gas flow position for several seconds to allow for the proper gas air mixture to take place.

Pipe Guy, You need to remove the burners and clean them throughly and the venturi valve on each burner. Spiders love to build nest in them. That should correct the gas to air ratio.

How do i change the burner tubes on the weber summit

It's fairly easy to do (unlike Ducane Grills). To help you, I have included a link to your Owners Manual, which will really help you. Go to the Maintenance section, Page E-1 for the drawings and description of how to remove the burners.

Hope this helps you to "Get 'er done!"

How do I remove burner tubes on summit gold

The burner ends (the tips farthest from you) are either held in place with a sheet metal screw or the tip fits it a small slot. Either way, removing the burners is the same. If it has a sheet metal screw - remove the screw and lift the burner up and toward the back of the grill. While lifting the burner, pull if away from the front of the grill, so that it slides off the the venturi valve and the burner will lift out.

That's about all there is to it. To help you further, I have included a link to your Owners Manual, that you can download and print for future reference.

The grill is 6-7 years old.. The flames are orange and leaving sud on the food..

sound like this is insufficient air in the flame...

if you can, lift burners out, spray them with oven cleaner and leave for several minutes, use wire brush and clean them under the water. pat them dry with paper, check if all holes are free of rust, fat and debris, clean as required. this should restore your grill burners to nearly new condition, return airflow back to normal and restore your flame to blue.

wear faceshield/googles to protect your eyes and gloves to protect your hands while you do that! and better you do not wear your sunday best either... oven cleaner is strongly caustic and can burn holes in the fabric and bleach it.

if you find this advice helpful, please do not hesitate to leave comment and give me your vote4, thanx!

Won't start (ignite)... tried different propane tanks...about 10 years old

Check to make sure you are getting spark from the igniter, if you are, try replacing the hose and regulator.

My gas grill does not light itself anymore. I changed the battery cleaned the tubes but there does not seem to be a spark. Lights manually just fine.

Check to be sure the battery is in correctly, on some igniters it makes a difference. Then check the wires from the igniter to the electrodes.
