Plasma and LCD TV sets are prone to having capacitors in the power supply section fail. This is the most likely cause for the probem you describe. When capacitors fail your will commonly see one or more of the following symptoms.

  • No video, Power light is on or blinking.
  • TV is making a clicking noise.
  • TV takes a while to come on
  • Screen is very dim or flickers.

Again, You can get a power supply repair kit with the parts, detailed instructions, and support from sites such as . Or just click here to see more details on their kit.

Here are pictures of capacitors...Notice that the ones below look bloated. They have failed and will need to be repalced.

Turning off

If you have 3 capacitors bad, there are likely more that you missed.
You didn't mention what kind of Flat Panel. If LCD, then check for the 5 volt supply. The caps are likely 220uF and 1000uF - 1500uF and all in the 16 volt range.

Digital lifestyle tv mt322 power supply need 1500uf 16volt location on power supply

Here is a picture with the 1500uf cap circled in red. It really is best to replace all 7 capacitors with 25v parts not the original 16v ones, one later power supply builds they did this because the 16v caps failed to fast.

I have my computer hooked up to my proscan 26LB30Q. The power will come on, but it only stays on for about 30 seconds. What do should I do to make it stay powered on?

How are you interfacing your computer to the tv? HDMI? RGB video cable?? Some tv's especially Vizio's will automatically turn off if it doesn't sense a video signal on the RGB input after about 30 seconds. Make sure your computer is putting out a video signal.

Two problems 1) when turning on it frequently shuts off then shuts on for three or four times 2) sometimes when turning it on the screen will have purple pixels scattered accross the picture.

This might be two seperate problems, But sometimes just this simple one can fix both. You power supply is bad. The caps. used in them are under rated at 10 volt and should be at 16 volt or better. They should be replaced and that should fix your problem. REPLACEING the power supply will just have the same problem happening again. If the purple dots do not go away, Can be the T-con/LCD controll board or the main PCB board. Have the power supply repaired.
If you are good at soldering? The caps that are bad,the tops of them look rounded and are NOT flat.
They also have a neg - side. Important put the neg - side where it belongs, board should be marked - or circle w/one side darker or lines in it. That is the neg side.Common bad Caps are 1000uf 10v,1500uf 10v,2200uf 10v,and 3300uf 10v. Replace the same "uf" rating but with a 16-25 volt or higher.

Maganovox 37'' power button not lighting up anymore.

Set your volt meter to the diode check and measure across the white fuse [power off and unplugged],Shuld read zero. Then the fuse is good, an open fuse will have no reading. If you replaced the sure the voltage is the same or greater. The Mfs must be the same...and most importantly be sure they are 105dgrees. In some cases they could be 125 degrees. If you replaced them with 85 degrees you will definitly not get a good start up. And always be sure you check the polarity on the caps to the board. The board should show a plus or minus. The long leg on a new cap is always positive. Locations for the caps I believe are2074 which is 25volt 2200Mf and cap 2081 is 35volt 1200Mf and a third cap 2066 at 16volt 10Mf. Be very careful with cap 2066 as the trace on the board can be damaged when you unsolder this! Good Luck!

After about an hour picture gets a blue distortion. YOu have to turn off TV and let cool off. Once it cools off it works until it gets hot again.

replace these electrolytic caps in the power supply,
C233,C234 3300mf/16volt
C241,C238 470mf/35volt
C236 1000mf/25volt
you can also go to enter model number scroll down to find power supply if they dont have it in stock write down the part number to find it on the web,it would be cheaper for you to replace the bad caps.

ILO LCT32HA36 will not power on

same thing happened to my ilo. There are four capacitors that are bad on the power board. You can usually tell its bad because at the top it bulges out. Here is what you need to do. Unplug the tv, open up your ilo find the power board ( the power cord plugs into it). Then find the capacitors that are bad (they are the around things usually in blue color) and remove them by soldering the other side. On mine there where three 1000uf 16v and one 470uf 35v. Those are the ones that need replacing. I replaced them with a higher voltage rating 1000uf 35v and 470uf 50v. All you need to do is solder them back on but make sure you solder them back the right way (plus goes to plus on the board or you will be in trouble). I found the capacitors at radio shack for about 1.50 a peice. If you dont know how to solder look it up on youtube. If that does not work there might be couple more bad capacitors that need replaceing just need to find them and you can tell by a small bulging top.
