Question about Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+

1 Answer

Last night, I went to close my garage door and as it started to close (door moved about a foot), it reversed directions and opened. I suspected a cat might have ran in and tripped the safety sensor, but, then when I tried to close it again the door does not move at all. I can hear a click when I push the wall or remote button but that's it. The light doesn't blink but does come on when I puch the button. Any ideas? Thanks Ronn

On the rear of the motor unit near where all those white wires go you will find a small light. Check to see if it is flashing a code. It will flash a number of times then pause and then repeat. This will help diagnose the problem. Also make sure the trolley hasn't traveled too far and jammed against the bolt just in front of the motor unit. Post back.

My craftman garage opener will not close. The up arrow blinks 3 times and the down arrow blinks 2 times. the button on the unit will not open or close it. It will move about a foot then reverse back.

try holding in the wall button the whole time. if the door closes, then you have an issue with the sensor wiring. if the wall button closes the door while holding in, then post a comment below and we will tell you next steps.

Hi Vickie,

The safety beam portion of the garage door opener is set up to stop the door from closing if something (car, person, etc,.) is in the doorway.

When the door is open - if you press the hard wired push button (not the wireless remote) the door will either close until shut completely, or begin to close and reverse direction as soon as you let go of the button. When this happens, it *usually* means that a sensor is blocked - and reversing the door motor. If you try yhtis with the remote the door may not move at all or just bump down and stop.

You should re-align the sensors as described in the link below. Good luck!

When the door is open and you go to close it , it travels about a foot then reverses and motor unit flashes. what could be wrong, I checked the sensors and they are showing green.

Any time the main light flashes 10 times and the door reverses to the open position it is a door sensor problem. Check them closely. If one of them is flickering ever so slightly it will cause this problem. Also make sure they are fastened securely so that they are not moving when the door closes.

Garage door closes and then opens immediately.

On the back of the motor unit you will find a control 'down force'. Turn this about 1/4 turn and try. This is for the reversing after moving a foot or so. Do not increase this control too much as it affects the safety.

If the door is hitting the floor and then reversing you will need to adjust the 'down limit' which is on the side of the motor unit. It takes a small screwdriver and you need to turn this control in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. Some tweaking will be necessary and remember if you run the motor too much a thermal switch will shut it off and you will have to wait 15 to 30 minutes for it to cool. This is normal so you will not be hurting anything.

Automatic Garage door reverses and automatically opens after closing

I can't believe it! My opener works fine a 10 degrees and above but below 10 degrees it would go down a little ways stop and go back with the light flashing. I checked the electric eye and found it would go out of alignment when the temp drop. Who knew!
I made the adjustment and it now works fine.
