Are you using a DVD+RW disk? Unlike DVD-R, DVD+R and DVD-RW disks you cannot finalize DVD+RW disks on the Magnavox MWR10D6 DVD Recorder. Instead you have to make the disk compatable [Make Edits Compatible], this allows you to close the disk and play it on other DVD players.

go to: Setup ==> Edit Disk ==> Make Edits Compatible ==> Yes

Other than this nothing else comes to mind to troubleshoot this problem. Hope this helps.

LG DVD recorder RH735T. Page 10 of the manual says to finalize a disc before you can play it on a different unit. But when I record something on a disc, the settings menu will not allow me to finalize

On my Toshiba DVD burners, you need to first open the DVD tray, and while it is open hit the regular menu, then DVD menu, select "FORMAT" from the DVD drop down menu, then "FORMAT MODE", which leads you to the 2 CRITICAL Choices :
1) Video Mode - Which has the DVD recording in "DVD Compatibility Mode" so it is "Compatible" with most other DVD Players
OR...
2) VR Mode- Which says "Editing Possibility mode" (Note you need a "+R DVD "to be able to do editing, at least on my machines.
Obviously you'll close the DVD tray to be ready to record
Finish the DVD, @ "DVD" Menu, & Finalize, or what you need with "VR"

Need to know how to finalize recorded disc so that it can be played in regular dvd player

You can record and finalize DVD+Rs one time. After you fill a DVD+R or

complete all the recordings you want on a single DVD+R, finalize it.

Otherwise, the DVD+R will play only on this Recorder. To play the Disc on

other DVD Players, you must finalize it first.

Once you finalize a DVD+R, you cannot record on it anymore or make

editing changes. Therefore, make sure the Disc is as you want it before you

finalize it.

1

Press SYSTEM MENU. Press

; to select in the top left

corner of the menu bar at the top of the TV screen.

2

Press CH-

9 repeatedly to select in the second screen,

then press

:.

3

Press CH-

9 repeatedly to select Finalize disc. Finalize disc

appears in the menu only when an unfinalized DVD+R is in the

Recorder.

4

Press OK.

"Finalizing" will appear in the menu. The process may

take a few minutes.

When finalization is complete, the Index

picture screen will reappear.

You cannot unfinalize a DVD+R, and you cannot record or

edit the DVD+R after you finalize it.

A DVD+R will play on other DVD Players only after the
Disc is finalized.

Is there a way I can finalize a DVD-RW so I can show films burned onto the DVD-RW?

Hi,

You have not pointed out what type of program are you using for DVD authoring. The option to finalize the disc is usually provided when you start burning.

I have an alternate solution for you which is easier. You can use the Windows DVD maker available in Vista Home Premium. This way you will not have to manually finalize the disc; it will take care of it itself.

Remember to install codecs such as k-lite basic coded pack for trouble free work with different formats. Then run DVD maker from the start menu. A tutorial can be accessed here.

Note that DVDs created by DVD maker can be played on most DVD players and on computer as well.

How to finalize dvd

Hello,

follow the steps below:

  1. Open the DVD creation software of your choice. Exact steps will vary based on the software you choose. Nero and Sonic are two popular choices.
  2. Create a new DVD project or open an existing project. You will need a blank DVD or an un-finalized DVD with an existing project on it in your DVD burner.
  3. Add any files to your project. All programs have an "Add Files" and "Browse" button in order to add files. To remove any files, select the files in the list and press "Delete." Be sure your project is exactly like you want it before proceeding.
  4. Press "Burn" to burn you project or changes to DVD.
  5. Press "Finalize" or "Finalize Project" when prompted. There will be a prompt after the burn process has completed. If you don't see a prompt, look at the options menu that is to the left or top of the screen. Select "Finalize" or run your mouse over the toolbar buttons until you find the "Finalize" button. Select or press "Finalize" to finalize your DVD project. Select "Ok" or "Yes" to confirm.
  6. Eject your DVD and test it in a regular DVD player. A regular DVD player is one that doesn't burn DVDs and is more than likely a portable DVD player or one that is connected to your television.
Take care.

About finalizing

Once a DVD+R or DVD-R has been finalized, it cannot be edited again. You are stuck with whatever you have. On the other hand, you have to finalize the disc to make it playable on other DVD players.
The exceptions are DVD+RW, which, according to the manual, does not have to be finalized, and DVD-RW, which you can "Undo Finalize" in the "SETUP/Disk Edit" Menu

Finalize dvd

Turn off the machine and turn it back on again, before the dvd loads hit the setup button on the remote, you will see a list of possible choice and edit will be one of them, wait until it lights up like the rest, that will mean that your disc is loaded, finalize is one of the choice under edit.

How to finalize

i have spent 2 months looking for this answer myself... and at last success! i downloaded the user manual from funai(they made this model) available here: http://www.funai-corp.com/6pdf/om/MWR10D6.pdf on page 38 it instructs you to press setup on your remote, from the drop down menu you need to select disc edit and then select finalize. this aggravated me at first because nothing happens when i hit the setup button, i powered off the unit and hit setup before the disc loaded. this step is not mentioned but is necesary. you cannot finalize a disc after it has loaded to the title menu.
