SOURCE: sewing machine won't pick up bobbin thread

open the bobbin case and see if the hook is turning, if it is it is just a timing problem with the hook and needle, if it isn't tuning you may have a broken gear or timing belt.....It eill need to be looked at or adj by someone who repairs them....Daniel

SOURCE: consew 230 sewing machine...will not pick up bobber thread

needle should be 16x257 Industrial machine needle with no flat side.
It does have a long groove on one side and a scallop just above the eye of the needle on the other side. On this machine the needle is inserted so that the long groove goes to the left and it threads left to right.
The thread breakage may be caused by a rough place on the hook. You need to turn the machine on it's back and look and feel all the way around the hook assembly. If you find a rough spot it can be removed with an emery stick. If it's not a rough spot, then the machine is probably out of time.

The thread will now go downward on the left side of the take-up lever.
  1. Locate and thread any thread guides, leading down to the sewing machine needle.
  2. Thread the sewing machine needle. Hold the thread with your left hand and turn the hand wheel.
  3. Watch for any thread to flap around.

Thread is bunching up and it locks. Now needle wont pick up bobbin thread.

if thread is locking up on tension post then its set too tight or is not threaded correctly , this can cause lower thread to miss too having top thread too tight , also ck for a bent needle this is another cause of missing lower thread

When sewing the bobber thread bunches up underneath, and breaks off. I have tried djusting the bobber tension screw, and upper needle tension to no avail. How often should I oil this machine?

1. Your bobbin should have one drop of oil on the race (little area that the bobbin rides on) around two bobbins that you have emptied.
2. The top tension is way too loose. When you put the pressure foot down pull the thread (top) to see if there is tension. Start at four is a rule of thumb.
3. I have included some rules to follow when you are setting tension.
