Check for blocked vent tube issues,, if the machine can't vent correctly it goes on then shuts down with the heat over and over again Until its just gonna stop. If thats not the problem check out this blog by Heatman http://www.fixya.com/support/r4398592-gas_dryer_not_working_gas_dryer_not

My electric dryer takes a long time--3 hours or more to dry a load of wet towels

The heating element may have failed. Also, the vent may be clogged.

LG Dryer takes too long to dry clothes

Sure the outside vent is not clogged up? If so it will overheat and turn it self off and do a poor job of drying the clothes.

Also check and make sure that all of the heating elements are working properly.

My whirlpool dryer will not dry clothes in one try.takes a second time to dry a load. especially jeans or towels

Make sure the lint filter is free of dirt. If this is a gas dryer, listen for the burner switch on. If you hear it switch on and switches off in less than a minute, you will need a new gas valve solenoid. This part goes part and goes on safety - switch off gas. In return you only get a air dry (not heated).

Takes about 5 hours to dry a load towels ????

Hi,

If you are having problems with your gas dryer not heating the most common problem is that the ignitor goes bad. Even though it glows sometimes it is still not working properly.

if you dryer is gas check out this gas no heat tip....

If you have an electric dryer, you can have many different things that can go wrong causing the dryer not to heat.

Gas dryer heating element won't come on.

There is a controller problem to turn on the gas manifold to produce heat. Since you have it only one week old, let's take the advantage of the warranty to have a new controller unit replaced.

Takes 4 hours to dry a load of towels. plenty of heat - just not drying

How damp are the towels? More moisture= more time to dry

Is the dryer full to the top with towels? There needs to be enough space to allow for air flow in and out.
Also check exhaust vent to make sure it is not blocked.
