Question about E-Machines Computers & Internet

2 Answers

My eMachines E440 laptop keyboard recently had a run-in with a cup of coffee. Now a lot of the keys on the bottom row don't work, inc. Space-bar, B, Z, V, Func, Left-Arrow, Alt Gr, @. Can I simply buy a replacement keyboard and fix it myself? Is it a really complex process? I do have insurance, however, I am currently on tour in Kenya and cant simply walk into PC World and have them fix-it... well, not for the next 2 months at least. I have removed my old keyboard, but replaced it when I noticed the film-strip type thingy attaching it to my laptop. Any advice on how to install the new keyboard would be very much appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Thank you very much for that, sir. However, will the new keyboard have this film-strip-thingy? How do I disconnect it/re-attach the new one? Does it just simply slot-in, quite the thing?

Thank again, sir. I'll get right onto purchasing a replacement keyboard. Cheers!

Hi

Yes, you can replace the laptop keyboard and it is very easy and simple.

Here is how.

Turn off the laptop and remove the battery of the laptop.

Check all the lock on both side ways keyboard (2 locks on both side of the keyboard) and on top of the keyboard (4 locks on the top of the keyboard). Use a pointed object to remove all the locks.

Note : Sometimes other laptop have screws on both side or at the back depending on the laptop model and make.

After pressing all the locks to release the keyboard. Makse sure you are holding the top keyboard and do not force it to flip it as the ribbon is still connected on the keyboard.

Gently lock of the ribbon and remove the ribbon connecting the keyboard from the laptop. After this, install the new laptop keyboard.

But nowadays, when you purchase keyboard part with the same model you are using, Sometimes the shop can install it for you for free depending of how you negotiate with them for free.

looking down on the keyboard the ctrl key is ALWAYS lowest row of keys, farthest to the left. It may have something else written on it but it is there.
A second ctrl key is 3rd from the right side of the space bar.

The keys on my laptop are stuck. They will not work

you'll need to replace the keyboard, it's relatively cheap. trying to fix a keyboard with sticky keys due to a spill or anything else isn't cost or time effective.

How do i get my laptop screen thr right way up i pressed somthing and its gone upside down

You probably flipped the screen orientation (rotated it).

For some versions of Windows (XP and Vista), try pressing Control (Crtl)+Alt+Up arrow (press the three keys together). You can also try the other arrow keys with the Crtl+Alt keys. The Crtl and alt keys are both usually in the row with the space bar. On a full-size keyboard, there are two Ctrl keys on the ends of the row and the alt keys are closest to the space bar.

Otherwise, right click on the Desktop (where there are no programs or icons) and choose Graphics Options > Rotation. Another place to check is right click on the desktop and choose Screen Resolution > Orientation. This is a shortcut to accessing the display properties in the Control Panel. Click Start > Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization > Display > Screen Resolution. For a widescreen monitor, choose Landscape.

I hope this helps.

(The ctrl+alt+arrow key doesn't work on my Win7 desktop but does work on the laptop. The Orientation change from the control panel works on both.)

Hi, i have a toshiba x205-s9800. my two year old seems to have accidently pressed some keys and disabled the keyboard...please help...

You could have deleted the keyboard in the device manager. If so, rebooting your computer and it will find it.
Are all the keys not working or just some? Take a look at this hint and see if it fits.

Space bar is not working, all other keys are working fine.

if the keyboard is too old and if you have used it a lot, then ou have to replace the keyboard. The space bar alone had gone.

(qwaszx) (,) and, (space bar) not work. how can i

The fact that it's the first two letter keys on each row; and SPACE and COMMA; leads me to suspect a circuit problem...either caused by spilled liquid or an impact.

You can try taking the keyboard apart to find out what's wrong, but I suspect that you will end up spending $20 for a new keyboard.

Acer laptop spacebar fell off

The space bar key is connected tothe keyboard a little bit differently then any other key.
clip_image002.jpg
There is a metal retainer connectedto the space bar key (on some keyboard models). Separate the retainer from thespace bar key with a flathead screwdriver.
clip_image004.jpg
Install the retainer back inplace as it shown on the picture. You have to engage the retainer with thesmall hooks on the keyboard.
clip_image006.jpg
Put the space bar key back inplace and gently press on it with fingers until it snaps back in place.
clip_image008.jpg
That’s it. The space bar key isinstalled back in place and should work as before. If you still cannot fix yourkeyboard, then you’ll have to find a new oneand replace it.
Pleas rate my solution on fixya if you are done.
