Question about HP Designjet 5500 (42 in.) InkJet Printer

Open Question

I have a DesignJet 5500. Just this morning, I noticed the color is not being "sprayed" down evenly. Each color "oscillates" across the entire sheet leaving a smooth gradient of bands of normal & light coverage about every .5". The "pattern" occurs at the same intervals & position with each color/printhead so I believe it has to be an issue with the way the ink is flowing to the printheads. Any assistance and/or information you can provide would be appreciated.

SOURCE: Kodak 5500-printhead problems

I was having problems in trying to remove a faulty printhead. It all started with asking Kodak for instructions for removing it,. The technician wasn't able to remove it. After they sent 2 printhead replacements in less then a year, they included a website which I was to go on to solve the problem. 2 hours later I found a website where someone(thank you whoever you are) suggested that you put your thumb in the middle of the top part of the printhead(after tthe ionk cartridges are removed) push toward the back gently & lift it out with your other hand, It came out quite easily. Why couldn't Kodak print insructions as such & better yet why couldn't they have a photo taken with a digital camera & sent it with their replacement parts or by e-mail. I realy feel Kodak & all other companies should be taken to task on this, They rely too much on websites to cover their inefficiences.

SOURCE: change printhead in 5500

To change the printer head on the Kodak 5500 AIO printer, you will need to do the following:

To remove the old printer head,

  1. Power on the printer.
  2. Lift up the lid to expose the printer head.
  3. Once the printer head moves to the middle, where you can get at it, then unplug the power cord to the printer.
  4. Remove the ink cartridges.
  5. With the printer head now empty, run your finder along the underside of the top of the printer head, all the way to the left side of the printer head.
  6. Push up with your finger where there is some give, and the shroud that holds the printer head will release the head.

To install the new head,

  1. Simply put it in place, and push forward with your finger on the sticker that shows a finger pushing on a sticker, and you will hear and feel it click into place.
  2. Reload your ink cartridges, close the lid, plug the printer back in and you're done.

SOURCE: How do I clean the HP designjet 110plus printhead

You need to go to the hp download site and download the System Maintenance Utility Software. Its free, but you need it before you can clean the print heads. also, for some reason it works best when hooked to the network, not directly to Computer.

Hp designjet 5500 error codes

Error code 0C0040 is caused by the drop detector not detecting drops from at least 2 print heads in the same area. Run print head recovery on all the print heads and see if that clears up the problem. If not, then clean or replace the drop detector. Drop detector can be ordered from: http://www.lpscomputer.com/p-2512-c6072-60179-designjet-5000-5500-drop-detector.aspx

I have problem with my 5500 hp: check printhead path 2

The most common cause of the Check Print Head Path Error 2 is a worn out carriage belt. Open the top cover and locate the carriage belt. It is the long thin belt that extends the full length of the plotter. Use a light and look under the belt for debris that looks like pencil erasure crumbs. If the crumbs are there, the belt is disintegrating and needs to be replaced. See: http://www.lpscomputer.com/c-732-designjet-5000-5500-belt.aspx
