SOURCE: How do you speed up the printing speed on a Paxar 9800/9850?

Press "escape"
Press Right arrow til display says "setup"
press "enter"
Display now says "supply"
press "enter"
right arrow til you see "speed"
press enter
adjust print speed IPS is "inches per second"
press enter after you change speed. hit escape key 3-4 times, then enter - you should see "print mode ready

If speed doesnt change it could be because the print speed is set by the software OR by the type of barcode you are printing. Serial barcodes default to 2.5 ips.

Are you printing a serial or parallel barcode? If you don't know, a serial barcode looks like a ladder as it prints out on the label. A parallel barcode looks like a picket fence. A serial barcode (ladder) prints at 2.5 ips by default. You can't increase the speed. If you're printing a parallel barcode (picket fence) you must hit "enter' once you adjust the speed setting in the printer menu. If you've done that and it still won't increase speed, then the speed is set by the software itself, and overrides any changes you make in the printer menu. The speed adjustment must then be made in the software, not the printer.

A 909 error is a control board failure code.
Either the battery on the main control board needs to be replaced, or the whole board itself needs to be replaced.
You can't clear the error yourself...

I need speedy label software for Windows XP This used to ship with paxar monarch printers. The earlier version works only on Win98 Can anyone provide me this ?

You can open up label templates in Word or other word processors. For Word, you can find these on Microsoft's website for free generally.

If you are using Avery labels, they have their own label software package custom designed for their products here: http://www.avery.com/avery/en_us/Templates-%26-Software/Software/Avery-Wizard-for-Microsoft-Office.htm

How do you save settings on monarch 9850

The short answer is that the printer automatically saves settings once you either exit the menu on the printer or after you have sent the changes through a datastream directly to the printer through a driver, 3rd party application, Monarch utility, etc.

If you're talking about the formats and batches that you send to the printer, and so that they stay in the printer, you can keep a format (layout and design of your label) to the printer by Changing a portion of the format header.

It should look like this if it is going to RAM

{F,1,A,R,E....

To change it to Flash

{F,1,A,F,E...

The R is ram, the F is flash.

Now you can send just your batch data, which is the dynamic data that typically changes on a label (name, address, part number, etc.)
